AM - 11 miles. JAJAF run. With the group until ~7.5 and then up to work from there. Perfect weather, nice run.

PM - 4.3 miles down to SHP, where Andrea picked me up.

Good KSL deal right now for the Provo 5K ($15 entry)

Looks like I'm running the Provo 5k now, since you already bought me the deal without asking!!

From Tina on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 09:13:39 from 75.169.7.23

Thanks for posting the deal! My plan calls for a 5k tuneup 2 weeks before Ogden, so this is perfect.

blog party in Provo!

From Rachelle on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 09:27:46 from 199.190.170.31

Jake!!! Why must you post this deal right now? hmmmmm what to do, what to do.

From Jake K on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 09:28:20 from 155.100.226.54

you can always buy a voucher and then give it to a friend if you don't want to run

From Rachelle on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 09:40:09 from 199.190.170.31

Very good point. I may just have to take advantage of the discount.

From Jake K on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 09:45:37 from 155.100.226.54

I got one and figure if I don't race, I'll either pace Andrea or just give it away to someone else

From Andrea on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 09:46:56 from 72.37.244.100

Pacing me sounds like a great idea!!!!

From ACorn on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 13:31:00 from 68.66.168.22

My cousin is getting married that morning, I guess I should decide if I should attend that or sign up for the 5K. I know which I'd rather.

From Jake K on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 13:31:54 from 155.100.226.54

If I was your cousin, nothing would make a better wedding present than knowing that my cousin ran a 5K PR that morning.

From RAD on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 14:20:19 from 98.202.23.178

Jake, I want YOU for my cousin!!

Nice run this morning, the weather IS finally nice.

I wanted to ask your opinion of racing a 5K this Saturday. I know you did it before Philly. Did you recover fast enough and find that it helped/hurt/or didn't make a difference. Just trying to decide between a 20min 10Kish tempo or a race on Sat... thanks, Coach!

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 18:16:55 from 75.128.7.139

Way up there about ten comments ago did you just use the word "party" and "Provo" in the same sentence?

From steve ash on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 18:54:50 from 50.8.121.33

Oh Rob.. You can actually party without alcohol man. I used to live in Utah county and I should know.

From Jake K on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 19:08:00 from 67.177.21.60

I'm probably banned from Provo now. I meant to say a very modest gathering.

Melody - back when runners were tough, they used to do it all the time :-) I think if its a lower key affair and you don't put too much pressure on yourself, then it can be beneficial. I ran a downhill 5K before Utah Valley Marathon and it was a huge confidence booster for me, and it definitely made marathon pace feel super easy. For me, getting rid of a little nervous energy was a good thing. Plus its good to practice the pre-race routine - put on the clothes you are going to wear, the shoes, etc.

From runningafterbabies on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 19:33:01 from 71.195.219.247

Thanks, Jake. I think I'll do it. I read somewhere that it should make the first few miles of the marathon seem like a breeze so that's the benefit I'm looking for. Trying to lock into a pace that seemed impossible a couple years ago is a bit daunting to me.

From Jake K on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 19:46:03 from 67.177.21.60

You are definitely ready for this Melody. Just look back at what you have done the past couple months. Its been awesome. You should feel very confident going into this last week or so. You're going to be rolling people down in Boston!!
