A year ago I stood with fear and excitement at the starting line of my first race, a 5k the ‘First Dam Run’. Today I ran the race again to celebrate a year of running. They even gave me a ribbon for 6th place in the 50-59 age group. In the last year I’ve run in 18 races, including three halfs and one full marathon, and two 50k Ultras. 1082 miles of training and racing. My running mentor and childhood friend, Davy Crockett, came to support me (and win the 10k in the old guy catagory). I wasn’t sure he would come since just last Saturday he finished his 29th career 100 mile race, including four 100 milers in the last two months. http://www.crockettclan.org/blog/ Visit his blog, he writes amazing reports. A year of running has brought me renewed old friendships, many new friends, a new wardrobe, and best of all good health. I’m still slow, but happy. |
