This is my first entry on the fastrunning blog. I have been blogging for several months and got pretty discouraged with the feedback from the blog. I am a middle of the pack runner and would like to get faster so I started the blog hoping to get some serious feedback about my running. What I found was that most bloggers stop by say a few encourging words and move on. The other thing that I am looking for is feedback from people that have experience and know something about training. I have read a fair amount on training but want to learn from other experience. I hope that this blog site is more geared for this kind of discussion. So here goes...

Today I did a very easy 4 miles. I just ran a half marathon last Saturday (1:34) and wanted to take a few recovery days before jumping back into my training. I did 5 miles yesterday and my legs were a little sore. Today they felt much better so hopefully I am on the way to recovery. I am planning a couple of more falls races (5k & 10k) before I go into the winter base building phase. So my plan is recovery this week and then back into training for the 10k next week.

Welcome to the blog! BTW I also happen to be 42 and hope to break 3:00 for the marathon as well so our goals are right in line. There are also a few others on the blog (Paul Thomas, MichelleL, JamesW, probably others I'm forgetting) who are also shooting for sub-3 next year so I would expect you should get a lot of great advice from a lot of like-minded runners.

Jim - welcome to the blog! Yes, you've found the right place. We have runners of all levels, but they usually have one thing in common - they want to be better bad enough to actually do what it takes.

We will keep an eye on your training and how you respond to it, and hopefully be able to provide some meaningful feedback in a week or two.

In the meantime, you can enter your workouts for the last two-three weeks or as much as you remember or have record of. This would be very helpful to get an idea of your background, and figuring out what kind of training you need to get better. Also it would help if you could post your PRs with as much detail as possible.

Jim, just as you have already read, this is a great site. Many runners - all levels. I've noticed that a great way to keep getting the advice you want is to keep your name "out there". Post often and consistently. Reply to others' blogs and develop a report with them. Also use the discussion forum with questions and replies to others. Finally, get a few friends involved. Good luck - it sounds like you have a nice schedule for yourself coming up.

Jim, welcome to the blog. I started logging on this blog in spring and have made many friends, been inspired to keep pushing and improving my training and have been very impressed with the "community" that is called FRB. As Dave indicated, to get the feedback you want, be sure to help foster the communication by providing your thoughts and perspectives frequently.
