I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Sun - early morning bike to janet's, hilarious that on the way back right pedal completely sheered off coming up 6200 hill, had to left foot it home but mostly downhill, 4 m

Mon - great disc golf w/ B & P, had a great throw on 8 while playing thru a 5 guy group, then ran the course by self after and ran home, did w/o on playground, arm bars, dips, pull-ups, leg-ups, feel sore afterwards, 3m

Tues - hard work cutting pine tree down at dad's, then pretty good ball, won with Joe's shooting, but when I was trying to be what I sh w/ 4 on 4, couldn't find the hole, but hustled, ball doesn't tire me out while playing, but hands are sore from all the manual labor lately, also waking up every morning at 6, things to do, leftover swamp-cooler work schedule, future worry over career, tasks? all the above.

WED - played ball at 72nd, won a lot cuz of crazy one-armed 3 point maker, still have hard time w/ those irons, yield to better shooters? Biked w/ Nate to JRP meeting dad at 33rd then N to end at 80th tunnel, back S took Industrial bridge missing dad with a flat and coming back for him, Nate pumped him up, we did the mile loop near Redwood Rec and came back to flat dad, I booked to 45th to get van to pick him up. Sore and tired after, energy output high

Thu - lunch w/ R. Broggi, played ball w/ Steve, won once w him, 3 on 3, played ag Ronnie, he's faster and puts his body into defender

Ran to start, got some stretching in, touched base w/ Nate, heard Nat'l Anthem, then took off, awesomely ran into Jeremy Swusinski and ran w/ him and friend Bob, did easy 7 minute miles up and down the hills, nice to just relax, the hills could be tough but enjoyed running along the cemetary and down memory grove, started to need a bathroom, walked thru some water stops, then caught up w/ Jeremy and co., lots of people know him from ultras I guess, sped up when say my port-a-potty at mile 9, was at 48:30 for 7 miles, got the kinks out on the john, one girl opened the door on me, good stuff, enjoyed a good 2 minutes rest, :-p, then started to pass some of the same people had passed, Jer Bear gone on marathon course, got into new territory where there was a guy in blue who was cruising, latched onto him, 70:30 at 10 miles, enjoyed the Chillstop cheerers at Liberty Park, I had grabbed a vanilla energy gel and took a little more than half of it, walked thru most water stops until my break but cruised in last 4. Didn't catch blue guy but was encouraging and passing, somewhat of a kick in. Overall happy with race, can't believe Don and Rochelle ran 1:31 1:29 at Ogden half.
Then got on the bike and the fun began, biked back and saw Jonathon (2:05 half), went too far on half course, had seen Fritz (I run 5Ks and marathons at same pace) but didn't see anyone else. Booked back and came to Liberty, saw dad and 3rd placer, also BJ who was crashing, (he said afterwards his quads felt like they were coming off his legs), then a most unpleasant and unexpected sight, Nate walking. He'd crashed at 19, ran for 2 miles convincing himself not to walk but then did. He felt dizzy, I caught him w/ 2.5 to go, I acted as bike guide, calling out "Marathoner coming thru." He stopped to walk once more and thru water stops, but then mentally picked it up and ran in, maybe 8 minute pace in. 2:50 and 5th place. He was angry, he layed down in the grass and I got the others to come to him.

Then Phin and I enjoyed the too loud band and the freebies, Estar had beaten Mark in the 5K and was waiting for a friend's husband, I got specs on him and tried to find him, but then Esther said she wasn't waiting around. Came back to watch Phin, and gave him to Heath when he and Alexis and James came. They got some good play time in while I biked back to Rachel, 2.5 miles back, ran/talked/walked w/ her. Fabulous! She ran 5:24, then got P on my back and biked inadvertantly up to Rice-Eccles trying to catch train. Came back and picked up the red line, then got to parked car near Fort Douglas and got in to go to Egg hunt at Crossroads church. We were there late but P and Amelia still got some eggs, P loved the bouncy house and got his face painted like a tiger.
Happy Easter everyone. Jesus died for all and rose again showing He is our salvation and Lord. May all believe in His free gift of salvation. He is risen, he is risen indeed!
