Was going to go light for a few days, but got on Internet to look for a trail.  Found a rail trail just 22 minutes from my parents ... flat & soft surface thru countryside ... perfect! I think it goes for ever ... and kind of wanted to see where it would take me ... but decided it best to turn around at 9 miles where I found a place I could refill my water bottle.  I really need to keep a spare gel in my water bottle pocket for these unplanned adventures!

Anyway, trail was awesome ... I love flat, soft surface running!  18 @ 8:16 pace. Out in 1:15:40, Back in 1:13:17 ... finished with only sub 8 mile in 7:37 & was glad to be done, but was comfortable whole run ... pretty countryside.

Found a great diner on way home, was feeling quite famished ... and now feel bloated!

Woah, 36 miles and it's only Monday. Sounds like you're really enjoying running these days.

Nice unexpected run!

Nice run! Sounds like one of those old railroad tracks that's converted to a biking/running path. My wife's parents are in PA and we go out to visit every year. They have one of those paths nearby. It's the only thing around that's flat. I love running out there.

Joe, thanks but really only 18, I start my weeks on Monday! Front loading a little this week as we have a family reunion this weekend, followed by a 10 hr drive back to Atl Sunday!

Thx Ham, thankfully made it thru the run without wearing orange & becoming a target!

Dave, there are lots of great trails here ... I read yesterday that PA has converted over 1,000 miles of abandoned rail trails to recreation paths ... Pretty cool, especially when they use a soft surface! What part of PA?

North East corner near Union Dale and about 3 miles from the Elk Mountain Ski resort. One of those rail trails comes through about 5 miles away and goes on forever through large sections of woods [2 or 3 miles at a time]. I saw both a bear and a bobcat on one bike ride through there 2 years ago.

That is so cool, pretty country up there! I wish Georgia had one of those trails ... well actually they do, but it is asphalt & on the complete opposite side of town from me, and in all the years I have been in Georgia, I have actually never been on it! It is quite the popular destination for bikers though, as it goes clear to Alabama ... so you basically never run out of trail. I will get there one day!

Now that is a good running day. Finding a good diner is priceless, even if you won't be able to make it there very often.
