Nothing too exciting to report here, 72 deg with 90+% humidity and some light rain.  Running fast in humidity makes me want to throw up.   Started out right on target pace first 2 miles, started getting hard in Mile 3, by Mile 4 stomach was not feeling so good, so switched modes to just trying to hang on to sub 7's.

Although I did not hit my time goal, I will never complain about running 6 sub 7's, and I did finish with a strong 1/4 mile kick at the end.  On a positive note, I felt like I could have maintained sub 7's for a long time, but I just did not have it in me today to crank out faster miles.  I believe a big part of racing is mental, and i just did not have the mental strength to push my limits today.

I was pleased with my effort, but a little disappointed when I heard the results ... I finished 5th, but 3 people beat me by 12 seconds ... and I was not pushing hard until the last quarter mile ... so mental weakness cost me 2nd place in AG & a nice picture frame with digital time & temp. Well, at least it was not a gift certificate or cash!

It was a pt to pt race, so I got a 2 mile warm-up in before at 8:00 pace, probably a little faster than I should have, but cut it close on getting to the start line on time!  3 mile cooldown at 8:30 pace to get to car and head for a big breakfast!

Racing and high humidity don't mix for me either. Nice job in the conditions.

Not a bad race. Just count the miles as marathon pace miles, and enjoy your breakfast.

Thanks guys, I was happy with it, just wish I would have made myself hit 6:45 splits on miles 4 & 5 instead of mentally accepting sub 7's ... I would have found myself in the middle of a sprint for 2nd place AG ... which would have been a more exciting finish! Second place through 4th finished within 3 seconds of each other, only 12 seconds ahead of me.

I would file this race report away and next time you run a 10K pull it out and read it. I believe with this mental experience you will blow away your PR next time! You're also like me...you a raceday coach to encourage you on... Wanta move to Texas? :-)

Way to hang on to the sub 7's when tired. Eventually you'll run a 10K in nice conditions!

That's a good photo, they never get me while completely airborne. Probably because I never am!

Thx Joe, an advantage of not pushing too hard in Miles 4,5, & 6 is being photo ready in the last quarter mile! lol

If nothing else, that race was worth getting the photo...!

where's this photo I keep reading about?

From JG on Thu, Sep 08, 2011 at 00:22:24 from 66.168.207.228

Just my new profile pic Tim, nothing special, but they caught me airborne, which I was a large part of the last 200 meters, as I had not pushed that hard, so I threw the hammer down at the finish to pass a handful of people. This race was the first of 5 consecutive weeks races for me, all more geared as a part of my training than going after PR's, although I will go for one in a 5k Saturday, just won't taper for it, so no loss if I don't get it ... just a way for me to make sure I get some faster miles in.

I just needed to reload --- good pic!

good luck on the 5K this weekend

That is a fantastic result -- mid-summer temperatures by our standards here in Houston. There's nothing quite like running out of gas in hot weather, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Plus, with chip timing you probably never would have seen your competition anyway.
