Boston registration submitted!  Read an interesting article that projects that reg is already over half full.  Based on submission confirmation numbers, which are issued in chronological order, they were up to over 9,000 registrations just a couple hours after opening up to those who beat there times by 10 minutes.  This morning it opened up to the 5 minute group, my submission number, which was issued at precisely 10 AM, was 10,968 ... there are approximately 20,000 slots issued to qualified runners.  Of course, this could be a farce, because I don't think anyone can confirm the first submission granted was number 1 ... but they are definitely progressively going up in number, one at a time!  lol  I think it may sell out today .... but if it does not ... there will not be many slots left when it opens to all qualifiers next week.  I wish this was not the case, and hope that all that got a BQ and wish to get in ... do!

Still debating if I will run today ... cool weather in the low 70's ... but I am doing a super hilly trail Half in the morning.  Probably a few miles later just to loosen things up.

Good luck, it'll be interesting to see where the cutoff comes. Although when the qualification times go down next year, it's anyone's guess once again. Sounds like you have almost a sure thing though.

Thanks Joe, I am not too worried as I have a 10 minute cushion, but would be on pins and needles if it was much less. You are right, it is anyone's guess, but even next year I would shoot for a 5 minute cushion, as history has shown every year more people try to get in & are training harder to do it. I think you are definitely on track for a sub 3 ... it would be an atrocity if anyone running a sub 3 did not get in ... that ought to be an exception to the rule! Lucky for me I am an old man and still improving, so I should be able to run any year I want to, as long as I can stay injury free! It kind of blows me away to be able to say that, as honestly it was just a year ago that I wasn't even sure I was capable of a 3:30 ... which at the end of the day, probably would not have been fast enough to get me in this year anyway! Watching everyone steadily improve is fun, it is definitely a sport which rewards determination, consistency, and hard work! I wonder if the same applies to golf, I would really like to play on the senior tour in my retirement! lol

Thanks for the encouragement on the BQ front. That is also what I like about running: you don't need to have talent, just need to put forth effort and you'll get faster. Golf, on the other hand -- even when I used to play a lot, I could shoot 77 one day and 93 the next. @#$%ing golf!

From JG on Fri, Sep 16, 2011 at 15:56:43 from 71.59.27.33

Ha! I am still waiting for that One day when I actually shoot a 77! @#$%ing golf is right!

All this talk about Boston is making me excited, oh yeah I'm not going :-( but I am happy so many I know on the Blog are! Ha ha... I see golf still frustrates you Joe :-)

From SlowJoe on Fri, Sep 16, 2011 at 16:06:46 from 132.3.53.68

I tried to play a couple weeks ago for maybe the second time in the past year, and shot a 98. Now I remember why I don't play anymore.

It's funny, being on the blog, I look forward to races I don't even go to like St George and Boston, just to see how everyone does and read about it.

I thought it would fill up the first day with the early birds!!! Shows what I know. I do not even really gt how it all works.

Interesting on the Boston numbers. I will likely will get shut out unless the stars align and my day tomorrow gets me a big PR. I keep wanted to run a marathon out in Utah to see how 3/4 of FRBers do it :)

From JG on Fri, Sep 16, 2011 at 20:51:32 from 71.59.27.33

Dan, You will not get shut out, you will rock that course tomorrow, then all you have to do is get to a computer & sign up. The way it works, it can not sell out in the middle of a registration wave ... if they hit capacity, they will accept the fastest times within that wave. Therefor, your window to submit your time is up until 10 pm est Saturday, that is when this registration wave closes. If there are still spots open, registration will reopen Monday morning to all qualifiers, and will remain open all next week, regardless of how many applicants they get ... they will then determine which fastest times get in.

So ... the long and short of it ... register tomorrow afternoon with your time, and you should be Golden! Eat some pasta, drink liquids and get to bed!!

You need a sub 3:15 to get your name in the hat tomorrow ... anything faster helps! A 3:10 would guarantee your entry!! Run your race brother, you have it in you, your training has been rock solid, believe in it!!!

From Kelli on Sat, Sep 17, 2011 at 00:20:08 from 71.219.67.175

Dan, if you are reading this right now, GO TO BED!!! But, I agree. You for sure have a 3:10 or better in you. GOOD LUCK!

That is interesting on how the Boston thing works. Since we are not going next year I had not really paid attention. Is that how it is going to stay OR will it be changing after 2012? It will be interesting to see what the cut-off time ends up being. How long does registrations stay open?

From flatlander on Sat, Sep 17, 2011 at 12:05:53 from 76.31.26.153

Interesting BQ stuff. I am just under the 5-minute mark, so if the Friday wave fills it up I might not get in.

From JG on Sat, Sep 17, 2011 at 16:32:07 from 71.59.27.33

Flat, it is pretty much a mystery, but i think anyone that gets registered by today should have a pretty good chance.

Joe, yep it will be a mystery next year to, even with the time standard dropping 5 minutes, I think a 5 minute cushion is the thing to shoot for. It would be an atrocity if anyone ran a sub 3 and got shutout! That ought to be am asterisk.

kelli, I think it will pretty much stay the same, but they may do some tweaking after analyzing this year.
