Back to trails at Buford dam for a beautiful fall day, 6.2 easy hard hilly miles.  Those hills are hard even when you are moving slow ... 680' vert ... 1 hour.

Sounds like you're getting back in the grove. Here's a (probably dumb) question. When you say 680' vertical, does that mean the maximum from lowest to highest? Do you know how the difficulity of a course is measured...or maybe that's something thats not measured since it all evens out from start to finish...?

That is total elevation climbed, so on a loop course, there is the same amount of descent. Comparing courses is debatable, but typically flatter is faster, and net downhill is faster yet ... But I think most would agree that on a up & down course, the ups take more out of you than the down gives you!
