Alas, a run this week I felt good about!  I don't worry about pace too much on this trail, I know it is a hard effort that pays dividends, regardless of pace.  6.5 miles on trail, 2 half mile downhill speed intervals on service road down to the base of the dam.  Of course, what goes down on the road, goes back up on the trail.  After hitting 91 midday, a little cool front moved in which cooled things down a little!  Yea!!!

Followed run with a refreshing swim in the lake.

Wow, lots of numbers. What type of watch do you have (a Gramin)? What's your resting and max HR? I'm nosey or maybe it's just annoying to you :-)

Dr. Tatum - I think my RHR is around 65 & my max around 185. My Garmin registered 187 once last summer, but I am not certain of that is 100% accurate, because that was on not an overly strenuous run ... my next two highest reading were 183 & 181 - which the 181 was crossing the finish line in a 10k where I recall having gone all out & nearly collapsing. I really do not know much about HR training, but may use it to measure my effort this summer.

I'm definatly no expert...LOL but your resting HR seems high. Have you tried to check it in the morning before you even get out of bed and before you start thinking about anything (it can increase 5 - 10 beats just by thinking about running or all of the things you need to do that day). Mine is 34(that's pretty low but I think genetic, my mom is kinda the same). My max is 183 although I can rarely get it there, usually 178 is the max even at the end of an all out sprint or the end of a 5K or 10K run. I usually alternate running by HR or time but always HR on recovery runs. I like monitoring HR because I can regulate my effort based on hills, heat and other conditions. Anyway...You probably know all if this I guess I just like to hear myself type :-)

Have a good weekend!

Yeah, 65 is high, but it was a lot higher last year. Which tells me I have a lot more room for improvement! 34 ... Wow, I can pretty much guarantee I'll never get that low! I would probably be happy if I could get it under 50! I will have to check it first thing in the morning. Somewhere I have a book on heart rate training I bought last summer, but I was rather bored by it & tossed it aside before I got very far into it! lol

From Dan on Fri, Jun 10, 2011 at 23:38:54 from 24.209.83.20

I have never used HR training, or even measure it. I should do that every now and again, wouldn't hurt.

Good run- Hey how do you like your adizero Bostons? I have some adizero adios racing flats that I really like and was wondering how the Bostons held up as a trainer?

From SlowJoe on Sat, Jun 11, 2011 at 11:20:53 from 184.79.24.255

Those are some screaming fast half-miles. Have fun this weekend.

From JG on Sat, Jun 11, 2011 at 11:58:18 from 98.66.194.199

Dan - the Adizero Bostons are great trainers ... I wore them in each of my last 2 marathons & have put lots of miles on them since. If it wasn't for how old they were & the fact I know how many miles on them, I would wear them in my next marathon ... they are still in great shape visually. Adios is my my next pair, tried them on in a running store & they felt great ... I just have a hard time paying $100 for a pair of shoes ... but hopefully I will find a deal on them before too long. I have grown to like racing flats, but only have about 115 miles on my Brooks St-6 & the tread is already shot!

Thanks Joe ... funny analogy to my next half marathon ... it is actually called 'The Scream', because it has 2,000' el drop, I am going to train this loop once a week ... and maybe try to break 1:22:00 July 16??? The course is also the first half of my October marathon, so that is what I am gearing up for!
