Note to self, do not debate for an hour if you are going to run or how far, just do it before it gets hot!  Was planning on 13 this morning, but since I ran 7 last night & with the heat, settled on an easy 10 or 11.  At 8.5, it was no longer easy, so I switched to walk/jog last 2.5 miles ... as I wanted to get home still feeling like this was an easy run!

First 8.5, AP 8:20, next 2.3 - 12:50 ... will call it 10 miles!

Every body has tough days.

Same thing happened to me the other day, I wanted to start walking when the heat crushed me but I would've been late for work so I kept "running" at a 9:00 pace. Anyway, nice job getting through the miles.

Matt, yeah ... I kinda knew it was going to be tough before I started ... but did feel good the first 8. It has bee 8 weeks of high mileage (for me), time now to taper for my 1/2 in two weeks, and hope it has paid some dividends. I race best after a big rest & recovery, so I will scale it back.

Joe, nothing like work to keep you running! lol The downside of wimping out like I did is it took another 30 minutes to get home & out of the sun ... I really don't like slow miles ... but I was determined not to feeling wiped out at the conclusion of the run!

I don't know if you read my blog entry a few weeks ago, when I decided to do a long run and got caught in the heat like you did. I ended up flagging a neighbor down and having them drive me back home for the last 3 miles. It was very discouraging and embarrassing but I thought I was going to pass out I got so hot and dehydrated!

All of us Texan's know how you feel; imagine it being 78 degrees at 5:30 am - we cannot escape it down here. I hear we might get a "cold front" later this week that will drop morning temps to 68! Yippee!

IJR - Yeah, I was kinda hoping a pickup truck would drive by, I would have flagged them down & jumped in the back ... I was too drenched to think anyone would let me in the car, especially a stranger! Guess that is an advantage of living in Podunk, prob everyone knows you! lol

DH - Yes, you have it worse than I do! It is time to transition to the early, early morning runs & just deal with the 100% humidity!

I have that same debate almost every morning for about 20-30 minutes. It sure would be nice to have that extra time to get ready for work after my run. Someday I'll learn...
