Track during Alex cross country practice - he ran 3 1000m between 3:42 & 3:55.

 1 mile warm-up @ 7:45

800 in 2:45, 800 in 2:52.

3 miles in 7:15, 6:20, 7:20

Was going to do a bunch of 800's, too hot, another workout made up on the fly!

10k is July4, goal is sub 40, which is 6:25 pace ... not feeling good about this in heat, maybe with a little luck, start temp will be in high 60's.

July 4 Race Plan:

Split     Pace    El. Change

   1      6:30      + 25

   2      6:15      -100

   3      6:15      - 75

   4      6:45      + 50

   5      6:45      + 75

   6      6:15      - 50

  0.2    1:12      - 25   (6:00 pace)

Finish Time:   39:57   Hmmm ... I guess it is possible.

I will need to control my pace the first 3 miles, so I do not die on the uphill thru 4 & 5.  If I can make it to this point on target, huge crowd support/adrenalin should help crank out a strong finish!  Miles 4,5, & 6 are definitely where I will either make it or break!

Funny, I was wondering what the heck that was until I saw your comment of making it up on the fly! :-0

For me the 5k is about max to where the heat won't bother me too much. 10k is another story - but if you get 60's you should be fine.

Ha! Yeah, I am not too good at following specific planned workouts ... particularly in the summer! Am trying to get better about that, but honestly if I can just get in over 40 mpw all summer, I will probably be happy with that, no matter what fashion I run them in!

Hilly-looking course. I like your plan though, and I bet you'll be ok with sub-40 even if it is a bit warmer.

Is that the famous Peachtree race? Be sure to start up front so you don't have to deal with the crowds.

Joe - It is hilly, as most of Atlanta is, but at least it does have a net downhill of about 100', but I certainly would not call it a 'fast' course!

Flat - Yes it is - I am sub-seeded, which means I will be lined up right behind the elites & top seeds ... which is a good thing with 60,000 participants! To get subseeded, you must have run a sub 42 in the last year, so I will be surrounded by pretty good runners. We get to go when the gun fires at 7:30, the last wave does not get released until after 9:00, so I will be done before half the participants have even started!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Joe ... but I ran the course this morning ... time to re-evaluate my pace plan & goals! I do not do well with hills in heat & humidity!! Oh well!
