Ate so much this morning, decided I needed to get in a quick speed run to get some calorie burn going on!  1/2 mile warmup, mile in 5:51, 1/2 mile cooldown ... I like shorter runs in this heat!

Morning - I ran to my car & drove to Waffle House & indulged in a double order Hashbrowns all the way (jalepenos, chili, the works!)

Had aspirations of a suicide loop hill workout early this morning, but was too tired & could not muster the strength to battle the humidity.  Probably will hit TM later to try to do a tempo run.

I have decided that my Half in 3 weeks is more important to me than the 10k on the 4th, so I am going to try to keep building mileage until Friday ... a heavier week than I should be doing for a peak performance race on Monday ... but need the mileage to be ready for my half.

So for Monday, I have thrown my well thought out race plan out the window (thinking it was not realistic anyway).  Instead I am just going to run like hell and hang on for dear life when I hit the uphills in Mile 4 & 5!  Probably not a very smart plan, which could result in collapse or total breakdown, but it will be more fun like that, and there is always a slight chance my adrenalin will hold me together for my original time goal.

I did do a race plan for my half last night ... let's just say is is a little scary ... and could also result in collapse!  lol

What is your plan? I have a half on July 16th and I have spent so many weeks off of running that I am in pathetic shape now. I was thinking that I hope my adrenalin holds me together too and that I won't drop dead from a stroke or heart attack! ha!

It looks like from your half times....you are super speedy! What time are you aiming for?

That is when mine is too ... I am pretty fast, when it involves running downhill! lol This one is major steep, about 2,000' drop, mostly in the middle 8 miles. My goal is sub 1:24, 6:50's first 3, 6:10's next 8, 6:30 last 2.1.

Problem is it does not start until 8 am, my last one started at 6 am & I got lucky it was a cool 57 degrees! That will not happen in July! What race are you doing?

I would be on Cloud 9 if I could just get in the 1:30s!! I would even love a 1:39:59. haha! That would be nothing for you!

I am doing the Bryce Canyon Half and it is cold in the morning, but heats up fast. It starts at 6:30. It is a beautiful and fun run. It has quite a bit of downhill too.

How hot is it at 8?

Nice running - love the speed, sounds like a good time!

Steam, good question ... it is in the mountains, so I could get lucky & get 60 degrees, although it will probably be 90+% humidity! Time will tell I guess, maybe I can have Slow Joe look into it for me! lol

Dan, fast is always fun ... I can assure you that I probably could count my sub 6 miles on one hand! A second run with real mileage lost out to wings & beer tonight!! Oh well, have to have some balance! lol

Wow, that is some serious downhill on your half! Weather.com or wunderground seem to be the most accurate for temps but you won't get any good info yet. Looks like the avg low for Jonas Ridge is 57, not too bad. But with the downhill and mountains, it depends where the town is from which they are measuring that average. The rule-of-thumb (I only know this from my flying career) is 2 degrees C (about 3.5F) per 1000.' So if the town of Jonas Ridge is at the bottom of the race it should be 7 degrees cooler at the top to start (like 50F avg). If the town is at the top, then it'll be about 7 degrees warmer at the bottom (64F avg) plus however much it's warmed up from the low. Of course those temps are just from historical averages, so you'd have to check the weather sites to become fully obsessed. There's my analysis, free of charge!

Nice speed workout...I like the speed workouts but I don't do them very often. Are you using a Garmin? How are you getting your information from your watch/computer to the blog. Are you copying and pasting? I haven't figured out how to do that yet so I have to put it on a separate spreadsheet and then copy and paste.

From JG on Wed, Jun 29, 2011 at 12:40:37 from 98.66.250.214

Thx Joe, unfort Jonas Ridge is at the top ... but you never know with mtns, I could get lucky & have a cool front settle in on race morning! Yeah, it is dangerously steep & maybe too steep for max benefit, should be interesting!

IJR - I upload my runs to Garminconnect.com, from the details page, you can export the file to excel, which then allows me to delete whatever columns I choose, then copy & paste. Takes a minute, but def quicker than manually putting together.
