I went to the gym to get these miles in. I've been avoiding it because I didn't know what my kids would think of me putting them in childcare for an hour. Throughout the run I was looking over my shoulder, sure that one of the girls that was tending the kids would be hunting me down to change a diaper, discipline a child who was hitting or comfort one who was crying. But I was able to do my 7 miles and found the kids as happy as could be afterward. My son couldn't get over how many dinosaurs they had to play with. Its nice to know that when I can't find anybody to watch the kids the gym is a viable option.

I always had some mental block against going to the gym because it just was not nearly as fun to exercise inside and I felt guilty about putting my kids in child care too. But then I came to the realization that once the kids adjust to it, the child care is actually fun for them because they get to make friends and play with toys that they don't have at home. I think it prepares them for preschool/kindergarten/nursery too (whatever age they are). Now I try to go to the gym about twice a week so my kids expect it and I can get some weight lifting/core work in without them climbing all over me. And its nice to have a treadmill available on those days when its just ugly outside.

Yeah - this was quite the awakening. It is a fantastic social opportunity for them without me hanging over them telling them what they should and shouldn't do...not that I'm a controlling Mom or anything. I'm glad I got forced into this - now I think I might be willing to join a gym in KY for those times when my husband will be out of town or too busy at work to be able to watch the kids while I run.
