This is really close to my house so it seemed like a fun way to spend a thanksgiving morning. Met Fritz for a warm-up. There didn't appear to be too many fast people; just a few high school kids.
The race starts at the capitol, goes 270ft up city creek and then turns around and goes 420 ft down memory grove. Splits were 5:51 (123 ft up), 6:15 (145ft up and 50 down), 5:22 (185 down) and 4:20 (185 ft down; 5:03 pace) for the last .86 on my Garmin. So it measured about .13 long - Fritz also had it this long. Very cold in the canyon and I was underdressed and freezing.
I feel like I am ready to step up a level but it's nice to run reasonably fast and feel good. The third place guy was nowhere in sight and I kind of sat and waited for the 5th place guy (who was wearing a cape). He never came and I never kicked it into high gear. I am disappointed in my second mile, should have been sub 6 at least, but I am more disappointed that I didn't run sub 5 for the last 1.86. But this isn't racing season. I am expecting to make the leap next spring.
Cooled down for another 4 with Fritz (including a 6:07 final mile so he could make a conference call). Then had a good chat with Amiee and collected my medal. Perfect morning.
I hope everyone had a nice thangskiving.
