Sub 2:19:00 marathon Personal: I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday. Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.
I am also the proud daddy of five little ones. I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running. |

| I ran at the park with Sasha today. We kept things pretty easy since he just ran a marathon on Saturday, but we did throw in a couple laps at a faster pace. |

I ran with Sasha this morning on the grass.
PM: I ran my last double before St. George today. Now it is about time to start backing off on the mileage.

I did a speed workout on the grass today. I ran 3x3 laps with a goal of hitting a 2:10/lap average (about a 5:20/mile equivalent effort if it wasn't on grass). I was pleased with the workout because as a whole it felt easier than I thought it would, and I ended up hitting times a lot quicker than I was expecting. 6:26 for the first repeat (2:14, 2:05, 2:07) 6:17 for the second repeat (2:09, 2:06, 2:02) and finally 6:10 for the third repeat (2:05, 2:04, 2:01). Sasha ran the first and third repeats with me, and I was surprised that he was able to stay with me as easily as he did on the third repeat.
Ok, so this is actually the post that should be on Thursday, but I accidentally wrote it on Wednesday. Whoops. I don't feel like moving it so it will stay here.

| So this is actually Wednesday's workout. I ran with Sasha, and then did a fat mile on the way home because I needed to pick up the car from Kimia's work, but I was running a little late. I felt good. About 1:14:00 for the run. |

| I ran with Sasha, and also ran to Kimia's work to pick up the car again. It was a good run. I ran at fat mile effort while coming uphill on the way home. |

| I ran a 5k this morning as a tune up of sorts for the St. George Marathon next Saturday. I ran about a 5.5 mile warm-up, followed by the race and a cool down to finish up with 12 miles for the day. The race went well. The course is super slow as it has some nasty hills in it. The race was a battle of the genders up at the front as the women had 3:00 subtracted from their times in order to compete for prizes. I knew that I had no chance of putting 3:00 on Lindsay Dunkley, but I wanted to see how big of a gap I could put on her. Anyhow, I started off running hard, and I went through the mile in 4:58. I continued to push during the second mile and I ran a 5:04 (10:02 for 2 miles). During the third mile my lack of 5k training took its toll as I started to get a side cramp, and I began to have trouble pushing myself and I slowed considerably, running a 5:20 (15:22 for 3 miles). I finished in 15:54 to cross the line as the first finisher. Lindsay finished 1:27 behind me to take first place. I think that for future races of this nature that a 2:00 gap would be better than 3:00. It would not have changed the outcome of the race at all, but I think that 3:00 is an unfair handicap for the men. Anyhow, I think that after St. George I want to try and improve my 5k speed. I need to get faster at that distance if I want to run faster at longer distances.
