Personal:

I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday.  Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.

I am also the proud daddy of five little ones.  I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running.

I ran with Sasha, and Daniel this morning. Our workout was rather odd because we ran out a little ways and then spent the next hour or so shoveling out one of the underpasses on the provo river trail so that people would not fall during the race in the afternoon. We also set up mile markers and other signs for the races. Sasha and I finished 7.2 miles, after which I went out for 3 more miles before heading home. I had just enough time to get home, eat some breakfast, and change into race clothes before I needed to leave and get back to where the race was.

There were only 3 people in the 5k. Most of the rest were in the 10k. We all started together, and Nick McCombs, Sasha and I took off. We went through the mile in 5:06, which was probably more like a 4:56 effort due to the snow and ice. At this point Sasha dropped back, and Nick and I stayed together until my turn-around at 2.5k (8:06 first half). Nick continued on as he was running the 10k. At this point I slowed down, and took it a little easier so that I wouldn't have to worry as much about slipping and falling on the ice. I made it through 2 miles in 10:42 and finished in 16:36, closing with a 2:35 last half mile.

After finishing I turned around and went back until I met up with Nick again. I ran hard with him as he finished the 10k. A little while later I ran a few more miles to finish up for the day.

Anyhow, I like the fact that Mary Ann is starting up a race series here in Provo.  I think that it will be good for those of us who are local as well as those who are from a little farther away.  So, run one of her races if you get a chance to help get this thing off the ground.
