Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Out early for an easy 7M run on a nice morning.  Just nice and easy today, nothing special.  At lunch I may try to run the course from the Tiger-Grizz XC meet last week (3.125M) to see how close I can come to the times the boys laid down.

Stratos 2 - 185 miles

A beautiful day for a lunch run.  Dan S. and I decided to run the HS XC course (3.125 miles) from last weekend's Tiger-Grizz Inviational.  First lap easy to get to know the course, we ran it in 24:30 and realized it is a pretty hard course.  Then took about 5 minutes to rest for a hard run at it.  I was targeting 18-19 minutes, Dan 23:00.  First mile felt tough and my legs were feeling heavy from the last week and yesterday's hill workout, but hit it in 5:47.  Next mile felt about the same, but with more uphill work (5:54), then mile 3 I was just trying to hang on...6:03.  Last 0.125M is an uphill finish and ran it in 47 seconds (6:20 pace, ouch!).  Overall really happy with the time (18:30) considering the fatigued legs, so I am going to log these as Threshold miles due to the fatigue factor.  I may run this as a last hard workout on Monday, Sept. 29 (taper week) before the TCM and try to get close to the 16:34 winning time from the meet.

Jeff,

I'm curious what you thought about the P.F. Chang's Marathon in Phoenix. Good course, what kind of time could I expect.

I have a sister that lives down there and I've had thoughts about doing one of the rock in roll marathons.

Overall a pretty good race. Weather was perfect, the course was mainly flat with some rolling hills. Not to scenic (through town the whole way) especially the last 5M or so. I didn't particularly care for how they had the finish line set up either with a turn less than 0.1M from the finish. The start was pretty organized and well put together and the baggage drop off/pickup was the best I have ever seen.

Overall a good winter race.

Nice run this morning. What type of course is the Tiger-Grizz XC, and what was the overall winning time?

My daughter has her first XC race this Thursday (7-8 grader's) and I'm so excited.

The course is pretty hilly with several 180 degree turns and I heard it was harder than last years State championship course (ran at the same location). The winning time was 16:30ish.

Good job on the XC course run. Good time consider the course and no one to run with or push you. It seems to me that most XC courses are about a minute slower than running on the roads based on times I have seen by our high school kids.

Jim, yeah this course is a lot harder than a road 5K. I run essentially the same route last year (State championship course, a bit easier than this) in 18:05, but did it in on much fresher legs as well. So, not bad today but I still want to hit it when I am fresh and ready to let the horses go!
