Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Easy 5M on a cooler morning down the standard Sunnyside road route.  Legs felt great this morning as I started my mini-taper for Saturday's race.  The pace was easy, but I ended up with last couple of miles just under 7:30 and it felt like 8:00 pace.  I will get a 5 miler in at lunch today at around a 7:00 pace just to keep the legs fresh for the race.

Total time: 38:45  (Stratos 2 -  51 miles)

5.75M easy around the greenbelt at lunch, running with Dan and Pat.  We ran easy (7:30ish) and just talked the whole time.  About 4M in, I had some serious intestinal distress and had to make a stop at 4.5M and it never really got much better for the rest of the run.

My GPS battery died right before the run...the avg. battery life is getting crappy right now (maybe 7 hours), anyone else with a 205 having issues with their batteries?  I am going to check the Garmin website and send them a note.

Stratos 1 - 83 miles

It's always nice when you are running faster than it feels.

From wheakory on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 10:59:50

Nice run and like you said take it easy and don't run too many miles. Take your lunch run nice and easy too.

From Lucia on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 11:01:16

Glad to hear you're feeling strong! What's your goal for the Pocatello half?

From jtshad on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 11:08:31

Nice and easy for the next 2 days!

Lucia, I am targeting between 1:15-1:16 on Saturday, weather depending (the wind here the last week has been horrible). I want to run this one at a pace that pushes me beyond my target MP for TCM (5:55) and helps make that feel easier but is reasonable for the course (rolling hills) and my fitness.

From Lucia on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 11:14:12

Excellent! Sounds like you're more than ready. I'll be cheering you on from far away!

From wheakory on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 12:20:38

Jeff we had 40 to 50mph wind gusts last night, but this morning there was no wind. I think were going to be safe. It's suppose to be in the 90's

From jtshad on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 12:23:54

Good thing you guys are starting early! Sounds like a repeat of the weather from last year for me.

I just got the list of TCM Master's runners...wow some great runners, including Mbarak Hussein. Making top 10 will be a challenge, but I will give it all I got and hopefully get somewhere 7-10th based on previous marathon finish times.

From wheakory on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 13:20:22

I know you'll do well and the poky half rolling hills will help in the training. I would suggest doing a lot of rolling hill course before you run TCM. I know you'll perform well there.

Hey Jeff, I've had my 205 for about a month now, and I was just thinking this morning about how pleased I was with the product. Thus far my baterry seems to go a good ten hours. Did your battery life diminish with time? I wonder too if I should try to completely drain the battery between charges, if that will extend the life.

From jtshad on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 14:56:10

I have usually got about 10+ hours out of every charge and I almost always dissipate the battery to the point where it is nearly dead before charging. However, in the last couple of weeks the battery life seems to have slipped to only about 5 hours (especially this week). Overall I love the unit, I just expect the battery to last more than a year.

Hey Jeff, was John Mirth on the masters list? He's big medicine midwest masters.

From air darkhorse on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 17:14:46

Don't worry about all the big dogs and focus only on your marks. Good Luck Jeff.

From jtshad on Thu, Aug 28, 2008 at 17:15:01

Yes, John is running the US Master's at TCM. He ran Grandmas the last 2 years (2:32 08, 2:30 07) and was 6th last year at the Master's in 2:38. Initially, I have him as a top 10 finisher, somewhere around #7 based on the list of runners I have (considering recent finish times I have compiled). He is running in the time ranges that I would like to run at TCM, maybe I could hook up with him and help each other out!

From Rachel on Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 12:20:40

Good luck his weekend Jeff, I look forward to hearing how you did! A HM probably won't seem long enough for you!
