Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

8.5M run on the TM at the gym since it was so cold and windy outside.  Averaged 6:32 for the run, but increased the speed up at the run progressed and bumped up the incline from 2 to 3.5%.  Overall a good run but I was tired and the motivation to keep going was tough. (Stratos 3)

5M at lunch on sunny but cold and very windy day.  I ran the 1M loop around Freeman Park to try and get some relief from the wind (it helped a little).  An amazingly consistent paced run today (7:00 exactly for each of the first 4M, 6:55 for mile 5).   I was ready to be done.  (T2)

I ran a 35:30 and a 59:10 10k and 10 miler Mon and Tue, excited about the new PB's. I have a hard time running anything but mp or faster, I feel that my advancements are because I run mp or better all the time. My last 2 long runs were 20 and 21 which were both under 7 min miles so what do you suggest. My best marathon was 309 in the fall, I don't know how to run Boston. If I can run 6:55's for 21 miles in a training run I would hope I can run 302 - 306 in Boston.

Thanks for your help, I really look up to you and your experience. I am 37 and I have lots of time to run sub 3 so I don't want to have a horrible first time Boston experience. Plus you and I both know that sub 3 is just a number and when I hit that it will be another number.

Great job on the PR's!

I used to run all my miles fast as well. Then, in the last year and a half, I changed my approach and started running more recovery paced miles, focused more on quality fast miles and increased my overall mileage. I doing so, I have improved my PR's in the 5K, 10K, Half and full. So, I changed to run more "base" mileage to allow my body to recover so I can put better effort into hard runs and I have seen improvement in race efforts. I think by allowing my body to have a bigger base with recovery time and miles (active recovery for me) I improved my overall fitness and pace and lessened my fatigue and damage through constant hard running.

Hope that helps. As far as Boston goes, keep up the training, allow for some taper time and go into the race with the expectation to have fun. Remember the first 6M or so are downhill, then flat for the better part of 10M, hills from 16 - 21 miles, then flat and net down to the finish. I will send you a spread sheet that will help with your planning!

Makes sense and less stress trying to stay on top every single run.

You have made me realize that I need to trust my body and have more recovery runs. For example tomorrow I scheduled myself to run 23 but if I am feeling under the weather like I am right now I will hold off until Sunday. Less pressure is better.

Excited for my first Boston. Thanks for the info, will check it out now.
