Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

7M easy early this morning.  I overdressed as it was warmer (36 degrees) than I anticipated.  Not the best run as my left foot was painful again and made the run less than fun.  Ran without Garmin, pace felt easy except for struggles with foot pain which slowed me down a bit.  Hope it starts feeling better soon or I will just have to take a week off to let it heal.

Total time: ~54:00  Stratos 2 - 281 miles

7M on a beautiful day at lunch...48 degrees, partly sunny with a slight breeze.  Easy run, just over 3M with Dan S. then the rest by myself.  I picked up the middle 2M to slower MP and the feet felt great during the run.  Now, sitting down afterwards they are hurting again (maybe it is my work shoes?).  Overall a good run, time of 47:10.

Stratos 1 - 285 miles

Oh my good hell Jeff! Your race looks as miserable as ours did! Great photo soggy bottoms! lol

From jtshad on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 09:49:33

The photo does not do justice to the mental state I was in at this point (but does accurately show my soggy physical state...and cold to boot!).

In the background you can see Mary Akor who I ran with for a while then passed me at mile 16 during the point when my mental state went from "race" to "finish" and my race kinda fell apart. She went on to finish 4th, 4 minutes ahead of me.

Yeah, I agree with Walter. We can see your smile from here in that photo...

Guys we need to redeem ourselves and hammer our next marathon. I think the worst part of the weather that makes it hard is we all came in with good training.

Jeff - What's the date of the next marathon your running?

From jtshad on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 15:26:47

Kory, I don't know for sure when my next marathon will be...maybe Boston next year in the only one more than just a thought at this time.

From wheakory on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 16:50:03

I would love to do Boston next year if I could afford it.

Do you think the P.F. Chang marathon would be good for me?

From jtshad on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 16:54:26

PF Chang RNR Arizona is a pretty good race. Mostly flat, not very scenic, ok support on the course (1 Gu at 17 miles). Good start line, ok finish line. Kinda pricey but that's what you get for big city race. If you think you would do well on a flat course and can get down to it, go for it.

Take a day-off and see if that helps.

From Robert on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 20:33:42

Sorry that pesky foot pain won't go away. You think some self message and stretching might do the trick? Your posture and foot positions while at work might indicate something as well. You look very determined in the photo, really wet, but determined.
