Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

6.5M easy run outside along Sunnyside this morning.  Several things motivated me to run outside this morning: 1) Need outside running, not TM training; 2) warmer temp and no wind and weather is supposed to get worse today; 3) Slower easy run planned; 4) Late getting up so I didn't want to rush to the gym.

Overall a good run, a little twing in left ankle but went away.  Still hard to get muscles warmed up in 20 degrees.

total time: 47:15  (Trigon - 509 miles)

Jeff, Your right about the difference running in cold weather. It seems so much harder to do fartlek's or pickups outside when the weather is cold at least below 35 degrees.

Nice running and your doing great to prepare yourself for this weekend. There's a 10k up in Idaho Falls this weekend that I was thinking about running if I can convince my wife to go.

From Rachel on Tue, Mar 11, 2008 at 11:28:07

Jeff, is this the weekend you run in DC? What's the weather like there? I won't bother telling you what it's here, just glad we have 60 more days til we come back to much better IF weather!

Have fun this weekend...

From jtshad on Tue, Mar 11, 2008 at 12:57:44

Kory, hope you can make it up for the 10K, should be a good one (same place we ran the 5K in Dec, just do two loops!)

Rachel, yes my race is this weekend in Virginia Beach, VA. After which I drive to DC for a week of training and fly home on Good Friday. Hope all is well in AZ!

From Adam RW on Tue, Mar 11, 2008 at 13:52:26

OUTSIDE in the morning? Is this really Jeff posting?

Make sure to take a lot of pics this weekend and live it up. You never know you may be the stepping stone to a future Olympian!

From LaurenO on Tue, Mar 11, 2008 at 14:06:22

Thanks for the encouragement!

Have fun in DC next week! I was born and raised there... really nice running weather this time of year (if you don't get an unpredicted snow storm)! :)

From Jon on Tue, Mar 11, 2008 at 14:29:14

Adam- yes, it is Jeff outside in the morning, shockingly. But we need to note that it is a rare enough occasion that he actually has to justify himself with 4 reasons, as opposed to just not thinking it is a big deal.

:)

Sometimes I try to think of every excuse in the world to not run outside in Pocatello in the cold weather with a mask over my face, but it's now working because I always do it. I need Jeff's help. My wife things I'm completely nuts.

From jtshad on Tue, Mar 11, 2008 at 15:04:07

What can I say, I got spoiled by the nice weather in Arizona. Plus, it is still frigging cold here in IF, even Pocatello (45 miles away) is over 10 degrees warmer than we are...in fact it is warmer in Montana than our frozen sink hole called Idaho Falls!!! I hate running inside, but it has been about the only way I could get speed work in because otherwise I turn into a popsicle. Our high later this week is supposed to be 31 degrees, in March!

Jon...note that I ran 27 miles on Saturday and Sunday OUTSIDE thank you very much.

Hope to take a good amount of pics at the Shamrock and run on the Rock Creek Parkway and down to the National mall in DC!

From Jon on Tue, Mar 11, 2008 at 16:16:50

I hadn't noticed the outside runs. I'll take back everything I have ever said...

Actually, it appears those runs were at mid-day, not early morning. Maybe I should retract my retraction. We weren't commenting on your lack of noon outdoor runs- it was your lack of morning outdoor runs...

Like I'm one to talk, though, since I run in the evening every weekday and have been complaining about how daylight savings needs to come sooner so it will be warmer for me.

From wheakory on Tue, Mar 11, 2008 at 17:34:50

Jeff is right about IF always being a little colder than Pocatello, but Pocatello always has more wind than IF. We are known has the windy city. There's always a consistent wind in Pocatello so if you factor in the wind chill the temperatures are about the same in the mornings. I hate the wind. The cold doesn't bother me, but Pocatello is always windy and you have to live with it.

Jeff is right it's very hard to do speedwork in cold weather which I'm sure

Utah is the same way.
