"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Early lunch run. Sun, 88F. Golden Ave/Davis High track loop.

Ran from the shop today. Urban assault! Actually, it's not that bad now that I'm getting more used to running on the roads. Concrete, asphalt, grass, and rubber.

Easy pace. 1/2 mile barefoot on grass at the high school.

Nice job james, I saw a guy running around the track yesterday barefoot. He was on the grass right inside the track, I was happy to know why he was doing it. Otherwise I would've thought he was crazy.

Are you still going to run on the high school track mid-day once school starts? They might think you're a stalker.

From JD on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 16:21:14 from 64.65.159.206

Lysa - shoot! I was trying to keep it a secret from you. I guess Carolyn let the cat out of the bag...

Carolyn - my prime objective in life is to stay as far away from teenagers as possible, so no. Luckily I have the "Mystery Field" with a half mile asphalt track, about a mile and a half from my house!

From Kelli on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 18:32:03 from 71.219.100.174

I just noticed you have a lot of shoes....

I wish I could stay away from teenagers, having one makes it a problem!

Now, why was it hotter at my house? At 11:00 it was already 91.

From Lysa on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 20:07:31 from 76.23.52.240

whatever, the only thing you want to keep a secret from me is your birthday. I still dont know what that is after all these years...

From JD on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 20:07:34 from 166.183.131.168

Kelli - shoes...I swear there is a legitimate reason for each pair. When the shoes are too old to run in, they become dog toys. Freakin' running shoes all over this place!

Maybe it's hotter because you're further South than I am.

From JD on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 20:08:48 from 166.183.131.168

Lysa - my birthday? Everybody knows it's Oct. 7th.

Wow it is hot by you! I like that you are running barefoot. I hate shoes!

I just want you to know that your blog title has had the song running through my head, almost non-stop, for the past several days.

I love the 80's

I love one-hit-wonders

Put them together...

From auntieem on Thu, Aug 06, 2009 at 13:03:37 from 67.182.145.8

While we are talking about your shoes, what are those GSS 3 shoes?

From JD on Thu, Aug 06, 2009 at 13:14:27 from 64.65.159.206

April - it's hot but supposed to cool down to 80 degrees for a couple of days. Looking forward to it.

Nevels - Yeah, one hit wonders are great, it gives the artist a little cash to live on for a while.

Auntieem - Asics Gel Speedstar 3's. Currently my favorite. A light weight trainer. A little more minimalist, as are the ds 13's. Putting the miles on them in small doses while my feet strengthen. I'm hoping I can use a pair in the TOU marathon.

From april27 on Thu, Aug 06, 2009 at 14:42:14 from 143.43.53.87

Not fair! I'm getting in the 90's for the weekend...and I have to work...guess I will have to soak up the rays early!
