"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

I have a date with the treadmill tonight, 7:00 PM. I can hardly wait! What should I wear?

Well, the date went pretty well. We've been dating off and on all winter so we're comfortable enough with each other by now. Still I like to take it slow. She really gets my heart beating, and it seems like the longer we're together, the more sweaty I get. I have a feeling that no matter how long we're together, I'll only go so far with her. My mind does tend to wander when I'm with her...okay, I'm done. It wasn't that great a metaphor anyway.

A straight-jacket?

My TM and I broke up this winter. I told him we could still be friends, but, you know, I'm pretty sure even that's not going to happen...

Thanks for the chuckle!

Whoa. I just noticed the blog name change. This one feels like an allusion to some bit of pop culture, about which I am tragically un-hip. (Non tv watcher.) Is there an explanation, or are you just having a flashback?

Don't sweat it Snoqualmie, there's plenty of TM's in the sea.

It's a line from an old B52's song called Rock Lobster. Flashback induced for sure!

Now I'm going to have to listen to Rock Lobster and listen for that line. Maybe you should play that song during your date with the treadmill. Does your treadmill know you've been cheating on it and running outside?

From JD on Thu, Feb 26, 2009 at 16:18:04 from 64.65.159.206

Carolyn, my treadmill and I have an open relationship, so it supposedly doesn't mind when I run outside, but sometimes I sense a little jealousy there, like the belt slipping or the calibration being so off that I have to run 1.25 miles for it to register 1 mile. Petty treadmill!
