"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Haven't run yet today, so I guess I'm posting just for fun. Whew! This sure is fun! Anyway, I guess I'm not much of a morning runner. I was running in the mornings pretty consistently three months ago. Three months ago temperatures were in the 80's and 90's in the afternoon, so that was great motivation to get up early and run and avoid the heat. The last few weeks though, temps have been very cold in the mornings but warming up to mid fifties or so in the afternoons, so more often than not, I opt for the afternoon run in shorts and t-shirt, rather than bundling up in layers for a morning run. Plus, I've been running so much more these last few months than ever in my life, so the extra rest has been helpful. I do run a couple of days a week early in the morning just to remind myself that I can deal with the cold temps and early rising. I have a feeling though that when the weather gets really ugly, I'll be choosing the treadmill over an outdoor run...without the treadmill, I would be forced to face the elements, and would probably be a stronger runner for it. Either way, running whenever and wherever I can is becoming essential to my overall well being...

Supposed to hit 60F this afternoon, nice conditions for a run.

Ran from the house up Farmington Canyon rd to the firebreak rd (aka Bonneville Shoreline Trail) south 2 miles and back. The first two miles of this course climb about 700 ft , then the course rolls for a couple of miles, then of course a big descent on the way back. Good run.

It's all good. This entry was fun to read as well. I don't blame you on the afternoon run. I would probably do the same fairly often if I could make it work with my schedule.

Same miles as I ran today, only I didn't climb 700 feet. Not all at once anyway.

Being a morning runner, I marvel at your afternoon running. It sounds like it's working well for you, but if you actually wanted to become a better human being by running mornings -- oops, strike that. If you decided mornings would work better for you, there are just 2 simple, pleasurable steps: shopping (oh, the wonderful winter gear) and caffeine (am I allowed to say that if you live in Utah?). :D

Hey Snoqualmie, I love my morning runs when I can do them. It adds alot to my day to start with a run.

I'm all geared up for winter, now we're waiting for winter to actually arrive. I haven't had to use the jacket Chad passed down to me yet.

Coffee! Coffee is as much a part of my soul as reading, or running, or music...but I never drink coffee before a run.

Remember, I'm in Utah...not of Utah :-)

Well, I was wondering what was in that cup you're holding! lol
