"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Got a late start (2:00 PM). On the Bluff trail. Light rain, 39F wind out of the NW 4-12 mph.

After the first mile I started feeling dizzy/vertigo. I thought maybe it was the strong crosswind playing with my sense of balance. I stopped at mile 3 to see how I felt and I felt weak and shaky...but I decided to press on another mile and turn around for 8. However, when I got to 4 miles I started feeling alot better so I kept going to 6 then turned around. On the trip back I started feeling really strong with my last 3 miles avg. 8:15/mile. So, optimism wins again.

Hooray for optimism!

You're still having rain? The storm has just started for us. You're making me think this thing is going to go on for a long time.

Ive been meaning to ask you, do you listen to music at all or just your breathing? And do you eat those gu's at all? How do you stay strong on those long runs?

From JD on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 20:50:22 from 32.176.156.139

Carolyn - it's a slow moving storm. It's supposed to clear out of here finally late tommorrow(Friday) morning. So you may have some lingering weather B.S. throughout tommorrow.

Lysa - Thanks. I'm thinking the dizziness was due to a sudden massive intake of oxygen after a day of relative inactivity. :-)

I don't don't drink water or eat GU on any of these runs. If I'm planning a run over 16 miles I'll carry water and a Gu or two just in case. Plus it depends on how hot it is. There's some good discussion about this in the Discussion Forum somewhere, probably under "Running".

Hope you're feeling better. The weather looks really good next week!

Oh and Lysa, I don't listen to music or anything while running. Just the voices in my head.

im pretty sure those voices in your head a really entertaining..I wish i could hear them
