"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Afternoon run from Jensen park North on the Syaracuse trail. Mostly cloudy, 37F, wind from the North at 6-12 mph.

Did 5 x 30 second striders in mile 8 working each one to 6:45 pace. It's fun to feel like a rock start for 4 or 5 seconds at a time.

It's good to stretch those legs. My high school coach insisted on strides after every run longer than 8 miles...

Adam - sounds like you had an excellent coach.

Lysa - no.

Carolyn - Thanks, and just like a rock star, I didn't get out of bed for a pre-dawn run. But I'm slowly comin' round to the whole run in the morning adjustment.

What exactly is a strider? Is there a set length in time, or do you just pick a spot and run to it? And how fast?

I know nothing about running!

Good job Mr RockStar!

My favorite striders are barefoot on the football field. So about 100m. The speed should not be an all out sprint. The idea is to really lengthen your stride. That is why they are so helpful after longer runs. I think I said 8mi above but we usually only did them for >10mi runs.
