"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

7.1 miles / 1:00:32 / 8:32 avg. Overcast, a little wind, 38F. Shorts, long sleeve capilene under long sleeve tech shirt from Ogden 1/2 marathon, light gloves, winter cap. From work, dropped a payment off at the bank, (it feels good to run errands on the run), then South around new neighborhoods I've not seen before. At 3.5 miles I stopped at Rosewood park and ran a mile with some striders barefoot on the grass. Definitely too cold for barefoot. With the first 1/4 mile my toes were completely numb. Felt really good though. Awkward trying to get my socks and shoes back onto numb, wet feet. Really pleased with how effortless today's run felt.

8:42, 8:41, 9:02 (uphill in a headwind :-)), 8:34, 8:04, 8:26, 8:17, +.1 @ 8:06 pace.

I can't believe you even tried barefoot in that kind of weather. You are brave.

Do you like that Ogden Marathon shirt? I assume the half marathoners got the same one as the marathoners. It seems ill fitting to me. I never wear it.

It's the same shirt. Mine is a large and it fits me well. It's comfortable enough to wear another shirt underneath. I gave away my shirt from TOU marathon this year. It was a large also, but they must have given me the child version because I couldn't even get it on. Weird how different the sizing can be.

Lysa - crazy and happy...

Allie - just a dusting of snow, but not much stuck to the ground here in Layton.

Shorts??? PLEASE keep your shoes and socks on, you need to keep at least a few of your toes to run!

From JD on Thu, Oct 29, 2009 at 17:34:24 from 70.96.78.157

April - hopefully we'll all get faster with time.

Kelli - I was a little worried about my toes. It's such an odd feeling when you can't feel them. They came right back though.
