Running Accomplishments:

'Just started! -Again!

Short-Term Running Goals:

Increase my energy levels so that I can keep up with my demanding jobs (Mother of Five, Wife of Father of Five, Chef, Housekeeper, Uncertified Phone Counselor, to name a few:). Strengthen my heart and improve my circulation. Grow some muscles! (It's about time!) Run four miles at once... sometime in the next 2 yrs, anyway. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to still have the strength and energy to do things when I'm old. I'd also like to stay in one peice until then!

Personal:

I have been married almost 9 years to Practically-Perfect Jeremy. We have five dear children 7yo and under. I rollerbladed as a teenager. For 18 mo, I walked a few times a week until about a year ago. I tried running w/ wonderful running partner last year, but that tapered off. We had a hard time matching schedules and I wasn't committed enough to do it alone. After an inspiring meeting with Sasha and Sarah, I am recommitted to regular exercise. I may run, or I may fast-walk. The point is to get MOVING, again. Please bear with my pitiful mileage. Supermommy runs all day, and doing that properly is my #1 priority.

I ran around Lybi's neighborhood w/ her. She is a hoot. She kept trying to get me to go through sprinklers. 8) My body felt so heavy and it was harder to run than any other day, so far. I was SO slow and tired that my feet were literally scraping the road some of the time... There are a couple different things I could chalk this up to, being slightly sick one of them.

Woo-hoo! I ran w/ my walking buddy, Paige, tonight! That was so cool. She is looking for a different and fun form of exercise right now. I hope she likes this! She is fun to talk to and I know Lybi will enjoy her, too. She lives in my neighborhood. She did well, and being as athletic as she is, I felt SO much better about my OWN first night of running a few weeks ago, which pretty much looked like hers. I felt like such a weak newbie my first night, because I couldn't run very long at once, even going really slowly.

Now I see that even these few weeks I HAVE made some progress (and of course Paige will even more quickly, if she sticks with it, because she used to be able to run a mile, and I NEVER had8). -Really cool!

Lybi's right - it is even more fun to get someone else started. I understand if she decides not to stick with it, but this was still exciting. :D

On a more serious note, I do think Sasha is onto something. I think I have been trying to run for too long at once. When I'm running, I feel like I need to take a little walking break much more often than I actually do. Lybi would let me, but I am trying to push myself. I am not doing myself any favors by burning myself out, though. I am really glad I got a chance to see that I have made perceptable progress in this short time. I think I will make even more if I switch off the walking more - I know I could do more mileage if I did.

One more thing - I have had stiffness in my ankles in the mornings. I notice it when I come down the stairs. I have been stretching them by walking on my toes up the stairs when I'm not carrying one of my babies, but I still feel this stiffness mounting up. Any suggestions of what to do to avoid/relieve this? As I said before, I want to be able to WALK when I'm old!

I ran 2 mi w/ Lybi AND Paige in the late evening, and it was so fun! We gave up on using the sidewalk (it's harder, anyway), and ran on the asphalt in a row down the roads in my neighborhood. Paige really pushed herself and ran longer than I could. She said it was easier to ignore feeling tired w/ someone to talk to. I am trying to walk, as Sasha suggested, when I feel I need to, to avoid exercising anaerobically. It's been a really good thing -- I don't feel as worn out and sore and thus reluctant to run again.

I experienced a strange phenomenon - after running and taking a walk twice, I actually was able to run much further the third stretch. I was surprised when that happenned, because I've come to expect feeling more tired as I go along, (except while walking, of course).

It was exciting to see my friends getting along so swimmingly the first time they met! :D

Paige said she's going w/ us next week, too - yay!

I felt great the next day.

Well, I didn't run, but this is still a HIGHLIGHT of my running, uh, endeavor! I just realized a 5k is only 3 miles! I am SO excited! I totally never connected we are talking about KILOMETERS and not miles. I feel so silly! -But good! Three miles I can do. :D!
