Running Accomplishments:

'Just started! -Again!

Short-Term Running Goals:

Increase my energy levels so that I can keep up with my demanding jobs (Mother of Five, Wife of Father of Five, Chef, Housekeeper, Uncertified Phone Counselor, to name a few:). Strengthen my heart and improve my circulation. Grow some muscles! (It's about time!) Run four miles at once... sometime in the next 2 yrs, anyway. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to still have the strength and energy to do things when I'm old. I'd also like to stay in one peice until then!

Personal:

I have been married almost 9 years to Practically-Perfect Jeremy. We have five dear children 7yo and under. I rollerbladed as a teenager. For 18 mo, I walked a few times a week until about a year ago. I tried running w/ wonderful running partner last year, but that tapered off. We had a hard time matching schedules and I wasn't committed enough to do it alone. After an inspiring meeting with Sasha and Sarah, I am recommitted to regular exercise. I may run, or I may fast-walk. The point is to get MOVING, again. Please bear with my pitiful mileage. Supermommy runs all day, and doing that properly is my #1 priority.

They were really slow miles, w/ some walking interspersed. I can hardly believe I made it. I was very tired to start with. I am trying really hard not to get sick. Three of my children have a cold. Does anyone have any experience with the appropriate time to run/not run when illness strikes?

I was really proud of you for getting out when you were tired! There are some people on this blog who only stop running for diseases like ebola, or maybe smallpox. But I don't run if I am sick. I do run if my kids are sick, though. Usually I think it is best to go out if you are not already sick--and just take it really easy so that hopefully you can stay well.

Are you up for 2 miles tonight around 8:15 or 8:30?

Holly, welcome to the blog. Stick with it, it will change your life. You have a great and funny training partner.

Hey Holly. First of all....you are making me blush with your compliments. Sasha, my husband, is a wonderful personal trainer. He has kept me going through thick and helped me get back to thin. I haven't always believed in running. It takes a few weeks before you'll feel like you can make it through this crazy exercise and several months before you become a runner. You'll be great if you keep at it with Lybi by your side. She is a little bit intimidating (don't listen to what she says) because she is a determined lady who can accomplish whatever she sets her mind to.

Benefits of running:

1. When you do get to take a day off for some odd reason you feel like you have SOOO much energy(of course you really can't do this much since you have to run to stay in shape) This happens after several months of training...at first you are just tired all the time..sorry..true but sad.

2. Increased ability to sleep when you need to and deeper better sleep..this also may take a bit but probably less like only a few weeks...ask Lybi her opinion.

3. Good appetite for healthy filling foods. You eventually will not like empty calories because they won't fill your muscle building needs.

Sorry...this is long but I've got to say you know how to build a lady's self esteem. later

Oh! I never replied to you guys:

Lybi: Thanks for the sick running advice. It sounds sensible.

Brent: Thanks for the encouragement. Lybi is an AWESOME training partner.

Sarah: Thank you for your thorough reply! Yeah, You are right-on about Lybi's determination. She helps me gain courage to try harder for what I need (and she does it sometimes just by example). Running makes you think about the difference between getting what you want, and settling for what's easier.

Ok, do you only get lots of energy from running when you take a day off? That doesn't sound good. Actually, I have already gained more energy than I used to have from running. I have had tired days, too, though. I seem to need a little more sleep, and it's tricky to get because I run at night. I'm still figuring out a good balance.

Happy running. The compliments are all true.
