Got to the course early for the freshman races, so I had a lot of time to kill before my race. Everyone ran very well in their races, especially Zack who won the sophomore race. At about 10:00 Lil' Warner and I started warming up. We got to the line with plenty of time to do strides and stuff which was good. I lined up next to my cousin from Washington on the left side on the front line. The gun went off and I didn't get out very well. I got swallowed up by the second line pretty early, and was in about 150th 400 in. This was a big mistake, and I ended up being super boxed in that first mile. There were points that I had to completely stop at turns which sucked. I came through the mile in 5:15 which was way too slow. Once we started up the switchbacks I was finally able to pass people, and from there to the top of poopout I passed about 70-80 people. Second mile was a 5:25. On the last mile I really pressed, but I was too slow through the first two miles to get my goal of 16:20. 3rd mile was a 5:05 which I was happy about, and I passed more people until I was top 40. On the track I got passed by Adam Haynes of Bingham, but besides that didn't get passed or pass by anyone else. Overall I was satisfied with my race, but I know if I had gone out a lot harder I could have run a lot faster. Oh well, next year my goal will be top ten. |
