Region two mile today. Got a solid warm up in, then watched the slow heat and started. Immediately 3 Westlake guys went to the front and led for the first 1200. At this point their coach told them to stop cuz we were all just drafting off of them so they went back and I went to the lead. Came through the mile in a very modest 4:55. For the next little while Justin, Adam Wood, and I kind of switched off leading like every 200 pretty much. With 1k to go I decided it was a good time to try and separate from the rest of the field, so I surged and it worked perfectly, the top 4 broke away and got a nice gap on everyone else. With 300 to go Ryan said that we had big gap and just coast it in, so I maintained my pace and ended up getting 4th in 9:44. It was definitely the easiest 9:44 I've ever run, and I feel like I could definitely go under 9:30 at state if I have a good race. Excited for tomorrow, hopefully I can get qualified in the other two events. Afterwards cooled down on golf course with the PG guys.
