Long-Term Running Goals:

Run my whole life, and then live vicariously through my children. (just kidding) , but I do want to pass on a healthy lifestyle to them.

Help coach East High to a state championship. (hope it doesn't take a lifetime!)

Personal:

I've been running since I was nine.  I'm married to a fellow runner who inspires and supports me.  We have two children:  Cole (4) and Lily (18 mos.)  I help Bill Cobler coach cross country at East High School.

It was nice and cool outside this morning, but very dark.  I wanted to get my run in early since I will be on a plane most of today.  I've decided that short runs are nice, but my body needs a couple of more miles to really get going. I ran a mile and a half warm-up, followed by 10 x 1 minute on, 1 minute off.  Then, I cooled down another mile and a half.  When I was done with my fartleks, I felt ready to start a workout.  My legs feel good, except for my omnipresent sore calves.  Of course, that might mostly be from the ecentric exercises I did last night.   Well, off to Indianapolis!

Good luck Emily! Be patient, some of my best halves started with a couple of sluggish miles. Like you said, it takes time to warm up. I can't wait to read the race report :D
