Running Accomplishments:

I'm a 40+ "used to be"...

7 years ago had BAD case of frostbite and nearly lost my feet.  Stopped running (obviously) & gained LOTS of weight.  Started jogging again when local community club needed a coach and found out that exercise helped to increase circulation in my affected areas as well as decreased overall weight which helped to take pressure off my feet.  Still deal with neuropathy and Reynauds--but do not take ANY pain meds to manage the pain.  Gotta' love running!!!

SO, any past accomplishments do not matter....only that I can get ut the door almost every day and run another run.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Currently building base to lead up to traditional Marathon

Goals:

Have not yet decided on race schedule for this year, but am shifting focus from ultras to trying to nail down some shorter speedy races and a tradtional marathon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running for as long as I can & share the knowledge that God has graced me with by continuing to coach as well.

Personal:

SO, I'm not allowed to hug the janitors anymore...

This weekend at nationals, i learned alot about myself.  There was much time for deep introspection and to take inventory on life.  One realization that I had (ok, that was given to me...) is that the boys think I am only friendly to the janitors at school because they plow the track for me.  I tried in vain to refute that notion, to no avail.  They think I am "flirty".  SO, to tes ttheir hypothesis, I did not hug a single janitor at all this week.  AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT?  My track wasn't plowed for today's workout.

So, do I start shoveling again, or go with the hugs????

Fartlek

2 boys have one last race before their transition into outdoor track, so they needed short speedy stuff.  Wihtout the track being plowed...sigh...the only thing remotely close to speedy was fartlek.  I let the boys do 1-2-3-2-1 (by feel, darn moguls...) with 60-90-60 rest.

Matt and I needed quite a bit more (and more mileage), so added 3-4-5-4-3 witih 2 minutes rest (I was tired...and sad...) and then added a few miles on the backside to cool down.  Could not regulate pace today due to the many ruts that were left by prancing runner's feet on the once pure snow, but was in the range of 6:03 to 6:43.

HUGS for sure! I would totally hug and flirt if someone would shovel for me. I might even do it in those tight short shorts... hmmm well, maybe not, but I might ;)

Well, I plan to process with the kids today re: the fact that my not interacting with the janitorial staff has resulted in poor workout conditions. I might have to wear short-shorts if the weather turns bad again...

Too bad you're not a softball coach. Then you could say first base got you first base.

SO funny. I say hug away for a plowed track! throw in the short shorts when there is a blizzard or you need the track on the weekend.

Burt--it's days like this (cold) that I wish I coached an indoor sport...

Bonnie-Funny thing is, i really did not ever see my actions as flirty or having any secondary motive. But no hugs really did equal no plowing! AND a bit of attention equaled plowing-didn't even ask! Now i am going to be so aware...if I need the whole track, i might have to bring Stephanie...

Brent-Thanks! I like hugs--course I hug my patients too, and they're on crack...pace wise i really need consistency, but was happy to look down and see a "5" at the beginning of some of them. just hard to hold it around the corners...wee! My lower abs are feeling it today as well--lots of high stepping to keep the cadence up.
