Yes this was a very low-key race.  There were very few people here.  I went with the intention of just doing the 5k but when I got there I saw that they had a fitness challenge to go with it.  At each mile they would have you do a certain calisthenic.  I figured why not since I have done so many 5K's.  Might as well change it up a bit.

When we started there was an older guy in a track outfit.  I didn't take him to be a very fast runner but you never know.  He passed me a bit and then he fell back after about a half mile.  There was another guy next to me doing the fitness challenge also.  The first mile was 10 burpees.  Did those and took off again behind the van.  The 2nd mile was 30 push ups.  The 3rd mile was 30 squats.  I was wondering what exactly they would be expecting when I started.  Pretty easy calisthenics though.  I ended up finishing a minute ahead of everyone else including those who were just running the 5k without the challenge.  I was glad I decided to do it.

It was a fun race and I really liked the course actually.  Didn't seem very long.  Then again I was running much slower than I have in the past.  My run time was 19 minutes even (I stopped the watch to do the calisthenics).

The major unfortunate part was the beast heat.  They decided to go ahead and start the race at 9 o'clock.  Right when the sun has started increasing the heat.  I was sweating like a wildabeast afterward.  I won a cool gym bag with a water bottle.  Good times.

HA! I LOVE that you beat the pants of everyone even stopping to do the calisthenics!! You are just awesome. Congrats on the win and the free stuff to go along with it. I'd like to try this race, sounds kind of fun! I agree that what they had you do was a lot less than what I was anticipating you reporting!

Yeah pretty small amount. They have another thing coming up called the XLerator challenge. You do a one mile run, 1 minute of each push ups, sit ups, burpees, squats, pull ups... Then you run another mile. Rather beastly sounding. There are 2 minutes in between each.
