Personal:

I'm married to a very supportive, although slightly less enthusiastic runner than I.  Alisha has run a little with me and participated in several 5k's, but mostly she supports me at races.  She ran her first half in November, 2011.  We have a son who was born in 2010, the year that I ran my first marathon.  I participated in my first Triathlon in April 2011.  I think I may have been bitten by the Ironman bug.  Though an Ironman finish is a long term goal, I want to BQ first.

I find that the more I run the more I want to run.  I consider my self a running addict.  I like the motto: pain is weakness leaving your body.

I ran 12 miles today.  I'm feeling really good because I ran it 1 minute 23 seconds faster than my 11 mile run one week ago.

I also met a new friend who has recently moved to Oklahoma from Texas.  He is a marathoner, triathlete, and iron man participant.  We talked as we ran along for about 2 miles together before he reached his car and dropped off.  Hopefully I will get the pleasure of training with him again sometime.  We immediately clicked on a personal level, and our pace seemed to be about the same.

I left the house early in a nice cool 74 degree temperature with a mild breeze.  I ran under a nice full moon.  Absolutely beautiful.  I felt really good today.  Ran an easy 8:07 pace for 10 miles.  I was home almost before the sun came up.

I overslept this morning by about an hour and half.  I usually leave the house before 6:00, but this morning I did not leave until 7:30.  Fortunately for me a nice cool front has pushed through my area.  The temperature was 66 when I left the house.  I is only 67 now that I'm back and writing this blog entry.

Race: Alzheimer's Run (3.1 Miles) 00:21:21, Place overall: 6, Place in age division: 1

I signed up for this race at the last minute.  I got an email on Thursday from my local running shoe store about the Alzheimer's 5K race.  This was the first year that this race has been held.  So I decided to sign up and see if I was ready to break the 20 minute mark.  Well I did not end up hitting that goal yet, but I'm quite happy that I won my age division anyway.  Not that there was major competition today, but I feel like I get the bragging rights none the less.

I think I could have done a little better had I been a little more familiar with the course.  Near the end both I and the runner in front of me thought we were headed on a straight away to the finish.  So both of us opened up wide only to realize that we had several hundred meter loop to make before we would eventually get to the end.

I had a lot of fun in the end spent most of my time trying to keep up with two veteran runners in their sixties.  I finished 6th overall and 1 of 8 in my age division.  I'm happy.
