Personal:

I'm married to a very supportive, although slightly less enthusiastic runner than I.  Alisha has run a little with me and participated in several 5k's, but mostly she supports me at races.  She ran her first half in November, 2011.  We have a son who was born in 2010, the year that I ran my first marathon.  I participated in my first Triathlon in April 2011.  I think I may have been bitten by the Ironman bug.  Though an Ironman finish is a long term goal, I want to BQ first.

I find that the more I run the more I want to run.  I consider my self a running addict.  I like the motto: pain is weakness leaving your body.

Marathon Pace Run.  54 degrees.  Beautiful weather.

While technically I accomplished my goal of run 4 miles to warm up followed by 12 at marathon pace, I'm not sure how I feel about this workout.  I averaged 7:02 for the final 12 miles, which puts me exactly 1 second under my 7:03 absolute slowest time needed for the marathon.  The reason I don't feel awesome is because I compared this to the last time I ran this workout on the previous cycle and I averaged 6:54 on those last 12 miles.

Should I be worried?  I'm not quite sure.  I missed my last tempo run one week ago Friday because my ankle was injured.  I eased back into running after 5 days off and ran a pretty fast MLR on Friday, which was quite a bit faster than the same workout on the last cycle.  Maybe that had an effect on my energy levels for the pace run this morning.

I think that if I can nail my next pace run and my remaining tempo runs, and then run a sub 60 minute Tulsa Run I will be in position to shoot for a 3:05 in November.

It's helpful to compare workouts from cycle to cycle, but I think it is important no t to read too much into those comparisons.8 seconds isn't that much in fact. I have tempos that can vary that much in a 2-3 week time period. Stay consistent with your goal pace work and you will have a much better chance of hitting those paces on race day.

Thanks Jason. I got a little bummed because I remember hitting some great PR training runs last cycle and still falling short on race day. I'm hoping to just run consistent tempos and pace runs on target throughout this cycle as you said. I know I will build on my base that way and come out a faster runner.

You seem to follow Pfitzinger, and I think those long run + tempos are essential. Still 12 miles @ goal pace at this point is REALLY good, and not easy to just pop off. I am guessing you are doing the 66 marathon again, which I see is late November. A lot can happen in 8 weeks. Good luck!

I am running the Route 66 again and I do follow Pfitzinger. I'm hopeful because even though I have a pretty small sample size I feel I race so much better training from Summer into Fall rather than Winter into the Spring.
