Personal:

I'm married to a very supportive, although slightly less enthusiastic runner than I.  Alisha has run a little with me and participated in several 5k's, but mostly she supports me at races.  She ran her first half in November, 2011.  We have a son who was born in 2010, the year that I ran my first marathon.  I participated in my first Triathlon in April 2011.  I think I may have been bitten by the Ironman bug.  Though an Ironman finish is a long term goal, I want to BQ first.

I find that the more I run the more I want to run.  I consider my self a running addict.  I like the motto: pain is weakness leaving your body.

Race: Hance Henry Memorial Run For The Patch (6.21 Miles) 00:40:47, Place overall: 3, Place in age division: 1
Total Distance
6.50

I will come back and post a more detailed report tomorrow time permitting.  For now here is what I've got.

Official results just posted. Hance Henry 10k. I finished in 40:47. First split 20:27 followed by 20:21 on the second. I'm 3rd overall and first in my division. The results were a little wacky and had to be corrected a few times because someone posted a 4 minute second half. Mile splits according to my Garmin: 6:10, 6:15, 6:18, 6:18, 6:19, 6:18, 3:06.

I'm feeling really good about the negative split even though I didn't go sub 40.

Seems like the course was pretty long, those splits are definitely worth sub-40. Great run.

Very nice tuneup, Daniel. Were you manually splitting your Garmin? 6:26 pace is sub-40. Unless you were walking a 15 minute mile for the last .2 that course was fairly long. Ultimately, that doesn't matter. You're looking in good shape.

Thanks Joe and Jason.

I'm not sure why, but my Garmin usually has me running a little bit further than the race distance. I was not manually splitting my miles. I knew I needed 6:20's to go sub 40 so that was my goal, and I kept that pace according to my Garmin. When I got to the end of the first loop I knew my mile splits must have been slightly off. One of my friends mentioned his Garmin doing something similar a long time ago so I thought that it must be pretty common. Now that I'm getting a little faster it's a little annoying.

Do you guys have any issues like this and if so how do you deal with it?

Your garmin splits were pretty consistent, I would almost trust it more than the course in this case unless it was definitely certified. If it's consistently measuring faster splits / longer distances than the people you're running with, then maybe it's a garmin problem and needs an update or a reset or something. I tend to trust my garmin more than smaller races' measurements, but for the more established halves and fulls, I have started turning off auto lap and just hit my button at the mile markers.
