Personal:

I'm married to a very supportive, although slightly less enthusiastic runner than I.  Alisha has run a little with me and participated in several 5k's, but mostly she supports me at races.  She ran her first half in November, 2011.  We have a son who was born in 2010, the year that I ran my first marathon.  I participated in my first Triathlon in April 2011.  I think I may have been bitten by the Ironman bug.  Though an Ironman finish is a long term goal, I want to BQ first.

I find that the more I run the more I want to run.  I consider my self a running addict.  I like the motto: pain is weakness leaving your body.

I got really good sleep last night.  I'm going to rest today.  I've spoken to a few people who once had plantar fascia problems who were not able to run for about a year.  I still think I've taken precautions early enough that my plantar fascia is not injured that bad yet, but to play it safe I'm going to take some more time off.  I have my arch supports I will wear during the day while I heal.  I am going to have dental surgery done next week that will require that I take one week off from strenuous physical activity anyway.  I will begin my rest period today, which is one week prior to surgery, and will then rest for one more week giving me almost two full weeks off.

I'm going to focus on sleep and nutrition while I rest.

PM - Pilates 20 minute workout.

My heel's been bothering me the last couple of days.

From Daniel Brunson on Fri, Aug 05, 2011 at 22:01:52 from 98.184.136.74

My heel only bothered me one day. Mostly just my arches. You might want to get some of the arch supports since the plantar fascia band that runs through the arch is responsible for the heel pain.

I hope it is ok to ask but how is the running in Broken Arrow? I looked on the blog to try to find runners in that area and you came up. We have the possibility of moving to the area and I can't live without trails or at least gyms with treadmills and so forth! Any local running clubs or groups?

If this goes through we would be moving somewhere between Claremore and Broken Arrow. Any information would be very welcome! Thanks :)

Burt- Oh no Burt! I knew that heel was worth documenting :(

It's feeling better Sue. Thanks! Dr. Sue. How's that sound?

Move to Phoenix Sue!

Burt- I kind of like Mighty Sue instead of Dr. Sue ;) and no way on Phoenix. I am sure it is a nice place but honestly I am amazed when I read your posts about running in the heat!

From Daniel Brunson on Wed, Aug 10, 2011 at 14:09:25 from 70.183.55.240

Hi Sue. The running is great in the Tulsa/Broken Arrow area. I live just one mile from the Creek Turnpike Trail. It runs for miles beginning near county line (Tulsa/Wagoner) and heading towards the Arkansas river and then towards downtown Tulsa and on to neighboring Sand Srings.

If you are worried about the heat we do get that here too. Our highs have been peaking around 110 for over four weeks now. This has been unusually hot for us, but it does get hot. Normally above 100. All of my summer running is done at 6:00 am or earlier when it is only 82 degrees.

The local running shoe stores have organized training groups for the Route 66 Marathon and the Oklahoma City Memorial marathon. Google Fleet Feet Tulsa or Runners World Tulsa. We also have the Tulsa Running Club, the Tulsa Area Triathletes (TAT), and Tulsa Area Trail and Ultra Runners (TATUR). TATUR usually meets every Sunday morning at Turkey Mountain where you can find some of the most technical trail running in the country.

Thanks Daniel! I appreciate the info. I did spend a little time with the heat in Houston but I was able to find a great gym nearby so we will see how it goes. I will start looking up all the groups that you mentioned.

Good luck with the plantar faciaitis! It's a real pain.:) New shoes, rest, the frozen water bottle massage, and slippers for my tile floor FINALLY healed mine. I hope yours resolves quickly. Nice work on the pilates!

Thanks Sue! I've been using the frozen bottle massage and slippers in the house. How long did you have to cease running?

Sheesh sorry for all the bad grammar! I have a toddler hanging on my arm :)

From Sue on Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 11:11:30 from 63.248.41.148

Oh no! Looks like erased my last post the one with all the bad grammar. I was out for two weeks but I attacked it early on with the very first signs. My bro-in law was out for a year. Is tore and he had to have surgery. Early rest and treatment was key for me.

From Burt on Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 12:14:35 from 206.19.214.144

Haha Sue! We still got your original message in our inboxes. The funny thing you said was - Daniel, my brother. Who are you, Elton John?

From Sue on Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 15:32:33 from 63.248.41.148

Ha ha really? We runners refer to each other as brother, sister right?

From Burt on Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 17:07:55 from 206.19.214.144

Well, you actually said, "Daniel, my brother-in-law..."

Immediately my mind went to the Elton John song. Maybe I'm gay.

Burt!!!

It's ok to say that on Daniel's blog. He's a free thinker.
