Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David.

I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years.

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Stayed near the home and ran easy to the track followed by 4 x 400m @ 5k pace and 1 x 200m @ sub 5K pace.  Cooled down around the track and one mile back home.  Last part @ MGP - 7:15 pace which felt good.

Still - 66 degrees this morning.  I know my body does not tolerate heat that well.  At this point I have no idea what I am going to do about the marathon on Sunday.

Hey Der Hammer,

I know what you mean about the heat. I decided to just run the treadmill at the gym this morning...well the gym is a little grungy one and they rarely turn on the AC...Man, I was sweating up a storm..! The good thing is my knee seems pretty good. I've really been trying to figure out meeting up with you but now my wife has plans for us Sat. morning...so I guess I'm going to have to pass on that invitation too. I'll send you a private message with my phone number. That way we can meet up before or after the race...sorry for being so flaky about the meeting. I really appreciate the invitations and want to meet!

Jeff - I have trained for Austin which is this weekend. All my running buddies - me included - are worried about the forecast. 60's with 90% humidity. Looks like it will be overcast so at least there will be no sun to heat things up. My dilemma is that next weekend is the Ft. Worth marathon. The weather predicitons are for a cold front and maybe low 40's to start. Not sure what to do at this point. I have a body type that generates a lot of heat, and the high humidity could be bad for me.

Preston, I got your phone number. Thanks.

That's a tough one, best of luck figuring out what you are going to do. A four-week taper might be an interesting experiment.
