Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David.

I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years.

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

When's the next full, CIM?

Joe,

Depends on if I get motivated to run another marathon or not. ;-)

yeah.....you will. I can tell you're just in a rut right now

My frontrunner fall race right now is Wichita KS on October 14th (avg low 48F) - obviously it would be a lot longer trip for you, but we all know you can't run a fall marathon in TX and you'd have a built-in pacer trying to accomplish the same thing....just planting a seed is all...

I'd like to run in the rain a lot this year...but I'm afraid it's going to be dry again this summer :-(

Hey Joe,

I wouldn't call it a rut, because I still enjoy running. I am just not up to the volume and training right now. I am enjoying my 40 mile weeks. :-) I do like the idea of an early December marathon though as I won't have to train through the summer and I don't have to start until late August. Although running with you would be great, I think that the early October date puts it out of the picture for now. I will let you know if I change my mind.

IRJ - be prepared for lots of rain - I just put in a irrigation system for the back lawn. Over 2 years ago when we put on the gutters the drought started. So I figure since we put in the sprinkler system it is going to rain a lot. :-)
