Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David.

I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years.

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Legs still a bit sore from Tuesday's circuit workout.  Just an easy 5.5 in the neighborhood.  I am going to go to the open track meet tonight to see how I do.  Should be interesting.

Oooo that sounds fun. What are you running?

I am probably going to do 200m.

Do they have age groups or just everyone runs? Let me know what the old folks run the 200 and 400 in :-)

Looking forward to hearing about that. Nice circuit on Tuesday, by the way.

The meet was fun. I got totally embarrassed on the 200m. Some how I got stuck in a group with some ex college sprinters - and it was the first time I had ever worn spikes and the first time I have ever tried to run a 200m all out. I think I would have done better with my racing flats. 29 seconds was my time - not too good.

I then did a mile relay team - 4 x 400m, I wore my flats this time, again, never tried to race a 400m before so I am pretty sure I could get it down a couple more seconds - 63ish for the 400m

- 3 master runners and one guy in his 30's who ran a 55 - we finished in second place with a 4:03 mile. The other master runner who has run a 1:07 half PR only managed a 61 sec 400m, so I don't feel too bad.

I can say the 120 walking lunges on Tuesday didn't help matters. If I do it again I will make sure to rest up a bit more. There is a big masters region event on Saturday, though I don't plan on participating. I would want to do some specific training before I did anything like that.

This was the last meet of the summer series this year. IRJ, it would be great if you could come up for one of them next summer. You would do well.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I have no idea about my sprinting times, but those seem like fast times to me, nice job.
