Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David.

I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years.

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Back home - yay!  Decided I would try to start getting some runs in close to MGP - say MGP + 15-20 - just to get the legs close to running at that pace without killing myself.  No need to start running to hard this early in the training cycle.  Additionally, I want to get my mind around finishing strong and not stopping.  Did 5 miles out and 5 miles back fron the house.

8:17, 7:06, 7:01, 6:58, 7:00, 6:56, 7:02, 6:54, 6:51, 6:21.

Followed by 6 x steep hill sprints.

Nice run.

Nice running - the Hadley plan I was semi-using awhile back called for a few longer runs at that kind of pace (he called it steady state).

Did you rent a beach house in Galveston? How was the trip? We're taking some kind of drivable beach vacation this summer but haven't decided where..

Thanks guys -

Joe - I read this - http://www.runningwritings.com/2012/06/elite-marathoning-with-renato-canova.html and there is a lot of 87%-95% of MGP runs in here - and it got me thinking when I PR'd I did a lot of long runs around this pace - anyway, thought I would try it.

Galveston - we like it - there is a lot to do when tired of the beach - whereas South Padre is a bit slow other than the beach. Kids don't really care about clear blue water - give them sand and waves and they are happy as can be. So in that regard Galveston is perfectly fine. We stayed at the Hilton since my wife was down there on a conference. It was good as they had a nice pool as well. But the room could get cramped for extended periods of time. Check out VRBO.com. I work at HomeAway and have used the service many times myself to find a nice condo or apartment for a family vacation.
