Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David. 

 I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years. 

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

I had to go into work last night at 9 pm and did not get home until midnight, in bed at 12:15, probably fell asleep around 12:30 - only to wake up at 4:55.  I had to get downtown at 5:30 to meet Dasha and borrow her fancy new touch screen Garmin.  I then ran a couple easy and met up with the Boston group at the annex.  After the coach spoke (seemed like eternity) we headed over to the track, so another 1.75 miles easy.  

I then did 8 x 1000 with 200m active recovery in between sets.  Nothing outrageous today speed wise - I kept it nice and relaxed and worked on turnover.  I didn't feel fatigued until #7 but I suspect that is normal, pushed through without a problem.  Although there were a lot of runners out there I did not have anyone running my pace.  Mike was there but had started early - he was already on number 5 when I arrived.  So I just ran them by myself.

I decided to take the long way back and really fatigue the legs, and it worked.  2.6 miles back.

As a side note, Garmin shows these long - .63 to .65 miles, which, if true, would make the pace closer to 5:37 - 5:43.  This is the pace that the Garmin said I was running during the repeats.  I am going to trust that the track is correct and that the Garmin is off.  I had to run around other runners a few times, but I can't believe it would have been off that much.

Yeah my Garmin is useless for pace on the track. Nice repeats. Must be a good feeling when 6:00 pace = relaxed.
