Personal:

Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David.

I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years.

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

78 degrees at the start - went to BS pool and did the 11 mile loop, dropping to low 7:00's with a couple of sub 7:00s at the end.  Legs are only mildly sore for Tuesday's leg workout, which is much better recovery than the previous week.

Injury is almost gone - I picked up some Saucony Ride 5's and the increased cushioning definitely helps the shin splint.  I walked into Academy on Monday and they had the shoes on clearance for $49 bucks!  These are $110 shoes.  I need to go back and get another pair. I wasn't sure I would like them but they are great shoes.  Cushioned but quite responsive, with only an 8mm drop.  What a deal.

Amazing deal on shoes that just came out in July!

wow, wonder if the shoe deal was an accident!

I have to chuckle at the "BS Pool" even though I know what it actually stands for...

"BS pool"...that's funny!

Glad the shin is better. I'd go back and buy 3-4 pair.

I was going to say I ran the dam route, too, but thought I would let that one go. LOL.

I think at some point I already made an immature comment on the "dam route" too, so this was better.

I like being 12... just saying. Glad the injury is healing up. Congrats on the shoes!

Good running, and good shoes. The company that makes my shoes has apparently gone out of business, so I may quit running as soon as my current ones wear out.
