I can't put in a long run this weekend because I'm going backpacking with my son's scout troop.  Somewhere in the Uintahs over night on Friday.  So to make up for it I'm putting in more miles during the week.  That started off today with 13 miles instead of 10.  I really enjoyed it.  I ran at an 8:50 average pace and felt great.  I don't know what's wrong with me on my long runs.  I'm feeling fatigued at 13 miles at a much slower pace.  Am I intimidated?  I really don't do anything different on those days.  It's a mystery to me.

could be as much mental as physical? Let me know when you want to head out for a long run - maybe it would help to have some company to push through it.

Let's look at next week.

Or the course? Sometimes my different routes put me in a different position for pace and mental ability to get through those longer runs.

Either way, nice way to start out the week with a nice speedy 1/2 mary!

It's probably different every week. Last week I think it was the course. I ran up past Thanksgiving Point and up the hill past Camp Williams. I then got dehydrated on the way down and was wiped out from 14 to 17 and only slightly improved after that.

I don't know about the week before. That's the one that has me stumped. But that's not the only one; others have had similar results on the same course and routine.

Backpacking is fun.

on your long runs - have you tried any type of gels or shot bloks to keep fueled?

From Chad on Mon, Aug 16, 2010 at 16:57:25 from 168.177.153.171

Weekday 10-13 I usually don't bother, but anything longer I try to do gel every 5 to 6 miles.
