AM -- 6.5 with Nancy today. Average pace 7:52. 9:30am 30 degrees. Streets tough to run on with snow still spilling off the banks a bit.

PM -- 1.5 miles up to the high school to meet the track team. 2.5 mile warm up. 5 x 500 meter hill repeats at 1:30 with 500 yard jogging rest back down (slope not excessive, just enough to work). 1.5 miles back to school around marathon pace. 1.5 mile cool down back to the house.

Nice job getting in some good workouts this week despite all the snow. I feel bad for complaining about our weather being colder than I'd prefer the last couple of weeks, at least we seem to (maybe?) be past the heavy snow stuff like we had during Dec-Feb.

Yeah Tom. I'm done with this winter stuff. 52, 55, 60 projected for St Louis next M, T, and W!

Hey nice new picture with the grey/frosty beard and all. Hey Kim and I were wondering....what's up with the LakeAnnDandy name anyway?

From Jeff on Sat, Mar 08, 2008 at 12:26:26

Tom, it was late last night, or early this morning when I replied to your question on your blog. I realize now I was thinking your question was about the beard, not the name. At any rate ... my high school cross-country coach was the late Dan Young. Dan passed away this last year and like all dedicated athletes they have a special place in their heart for their coach. When I was a Junior Dan took myself and 3 other members of the team to a marathon relay during the summer. None of us had ever raced anything over 5k before. Dan, being from Lake Ann, signed us up as the Lake Ann Dandies. And to this day I am proud to say that I am a Lake Ann Dandy.

I'd like to add to that post a tribute list of Lake Ann Dan sayings:

"Lets go boys, we're putting money in the bank right now. We'll pull it out later."

"Hubba hubba, boys."

And my all time favorite. One day Dan called us all around before a race. He had these huge hands and long arms. He was a tall, but quiet man. And when he spoke to us he had this way of hunching over so as to be closer to our level. And he stood there hunched. Waving us in close. When we had all gathered in tight he slapped his hands together and rubbed them together, preparing to impart us with escoteric knowledge and he said ... "Now, whatcha wanna do today boys, is go out there, and at some point take the lead. Then yer gona want to try to hold it." Then he walked away and left us standing there at the start line.
