6.5 miles in 50:55, 7:50/mi, HR 150.  Cold (15F) and icy this morning.  Power went out early this morning so I went for my first run early in the day.  Tough going the first couple of miles but managed to pick up the pace on the return.  Supposed to be below freezing all week....not what I signed up for when I moved to western WA.

4 miles in 30:25, 7:36/mi, HR 149.  Somehow I can't bring myself to call 24F warmer.  Still icy on the roads and likely here to stay through the weekend.  Been getting depressed over the slow paces recently so I pushed to get a respectible time in on this one....felt a bit reckless on the icier spots and like I was definitely working, but examining the data afterwards shows a HR not too high and a pace decent but not overly fast.  Feels like my leg muscles are just atrophying right off my legs.

"Baby it's cold outside..." I can't get that song out of my head. lol Hang in there; this cannot last all winter. It just can't. Do you have any races coming up?

From Dale on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 10:43:55

Ugh. Single digit morning! 9F when I got up today....I'm holding out for at least 14F before I go run!

Dunno....I thought about entering the FSRC Resolution Run series (http://runfsrc.com/fsrc/) but seem to be having some serious motivational problems and may just concentrate on getting out the door every day. I'll probably play it by ear like last year and on Jan 1 if I feel like running a 5K, I'll just go show up.

Have you ever run Nookachamps? I'm doing the half again this year. http://www.nookachamps.com/

From Dale on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:13:33

No, I haven't. Mt. Vernon's quite a drive for me and I really dislike having to drive thru Bellevue/Seattle :(.

I'm hoping Evergreen hosts it's Geoduck Gallop 1/2 again this year....it's quite a bit closer for me and I could probably get motivated to see if I could run it faster this year.

I'll sort it out over the holidays....I have some vacation time to burn before the year ends so I'll have some time for quality thought and introspection soon. Maybe that'll help me figure out what's next.

Oh yeah, I think you were the one to tell me about the Geoduck. I have a friend who wants to do Nookachamps with me so I opted for that one this year. I hear ya on the driving. No fun.

Seems like you guys are really getting pounded with the cold weather. It was 66 degrees out here yesterday...way too warm for me. I would much rather run in the cold weather, like I did on Sunday, than run in the heat. Just find a race and run it, you'll feel better. Happy running my brother!

C'mon Dale, do the Nookachamps. I'm headed up there also, I actually grew up just off the race course. And wouldn't having the power conk out a few times a week free up your day for introspection?

From Dale on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 09:56:31

No, all the power losses do is force me to go cut up more firewood to keep the house warm :)
