Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - 5 mile MP tempo run.  Warmed up first mile in 8:37, then started the tempo run.  I don't remember the exact splits, but the entire tempo run felt very much in control.  Of the 5 miles, 4 of them ended up being faster than my anticipated MP, not by design - I was not really looking at the Garmin very much, just going mostly by feel.  Felt good, relaxed, in control and breathing was relaxed throughout.  I take this as a good sign.  Cooled down for 1/2 mile after the tempo run, then took Sparky out for another 0.8 miles (untimed).  Total time for the 6.5 miles was 49:06, average pace of 7:33/mile.  No complaints from my legs, heart or lungs on this run.

James, I have thought of your idea about Edward becoming human--again. I actually thought that is what Edward said to Bella at the end of Twilight--"Give me a couple of years to figure it out." My sister informed me that I read it wrong. I went back and read the last couple chapters. She was right. If it was possible, do you think the whole Cullen family would change back? Definitely Rosaline and Ensme and they would probably persuade Emmet and Carlisle. Would Alice, since she doesn't know any different?

I am not sure - personally, I think it has something to do with him being in love with a human, which none of the others are. I don't have any evidence to back up my theory, but like I said, I just think it makes for a rotten happy ending to have the main character turned into a vampire.

James - good work today. Remember that there should be no such thing as your planned marathon pace. Whatever pace you feel you can hold for 26 miles is your marathon pace, it should not be planned, you should just go and observe. Do not become a split slave in the race. Also, the ideal pace may not necessarily be even, even on sections with identical elevation profile. Some people should go out a little slower then speed up, others should go out a bit faster and then hang in there.

Thanks Sasha and Lybi - I actually think that my splits today were very indicative of doing what felt good to my body. Now the real question is if I can maintain it for 26 miles. I appreciate the input about the pace not being even - I am sure that Veyo and the next few miles will be slower, and I will not worry about that - and I may end up starting out faster due to excitement - I don't know.

James, good run today, confidence and being positive is important. Veyo will fall at our feet in defeet?
