Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - 3.75 easy miles.  I'll keep my entry short today.  Total time was 30:22 for the morning run, average pace of 8:06/mile.  Achilles was sore and stiff again this morning.  Found a stretching exercise that goes along with what Ian was saying - doing reverse calf raises.  Tried doing them this morning, determined I have very poor balance . . . Heh.  Did my core exercises.  They are starting to feel a little easier, although they still give me a major burn by the time I am done.

PM - 3.25 easy miles.  Time was 25:38, average pace of 7:53/mile.  First mile ended up being a garbage mile in 7:42, the rest were at a good pace.  I was still feeling the pasta salad I ate at 5:30 for dinner, and I had run 2 hours earlier - another Heh.  I guess I am one of those runners that does not do well with food in my stomach.  I seem to always run better in the morning, on an empty stomach, or late in the evening, with about 4 hours between dinner and my run.

James, is the achilles problem only in one leg? I went to a Krankengymnast for help to find the cause and not just treat the symptoms for my achilles & lower back pain. His diagnosis was one leg longer than the other, my spine forming a slight 's' shape to compensate. Core exercises were recommended to correct the imbalancies.

Keep with it, it will help.

I'm exactly the same with regards to eating & running, this year I went to a Lauftreff once a week at 7pm and could not eat at all before. Afterwards I'd be ravenous and have to stop for a takeaway on the way home.

Interesting - I do actually have a leg-length discrepancy, although in my case it is caused by a pelvic torsion. I have been going to the chiropractor fairy regularly to have this worked on, and every time, not only is my pelvis off, but so is most of the rest of my back as well. Incidentally, I have been working on core exercises more than I ever have before in my life. Just got an idea for a coupe more to do as well that I will add to my routine. Hopefully the combination of core exercises and stretching/reverse calf raises will help me out. Thanks for the encouragement.
