Personal:

I was married in 1997 to my beautiful wife Lybi (confessions of a piano teacher on the blog), and we have 3 wonderful boys who are just as active as I was when I was little (he he). I grew up in southeastern Michigan, and my family became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 6. I attended BYU, and served a mission in Berlin, Germany. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Health and Human Performance (pre-physical therapy), I promptly changed careers and started working with computers (although no programming for me). We have moved across the country several times, and currently live in Mesa, AZ.  I work in computer security for a major nationwide homebuilder.

AM - 5.1 easy miles with the Garmin.  The top of my foot is still kind of painful, but more or less went away during the run.  Right now, it is not too bad unless I try to dorsiflex my foot.  I managed to keep all of my miles slower than 8:00 today, which is an accomplishment compared to yesterday.  Total time for the run was 41:39, average pace of 8:10/mile.  I will be happy if I can keep up this kind of pace the rest of the week and not overdo it.

PM - 2.05 miles, 0.62 with Joseph, then 1 mile with Sam, then the rest by myself.  I tried to focus on running smooth and relaxed on my run.  Felt good.  I also re-laced my shoes using the Lydiard lacing technique, and my foot felt much better on the run.  I will ice it again, and hopefully it will feel better in a couple of days.  I don't think it is going to bother me enough to keep me from running, however.

Great running!

As far as the foot pain, I had that happen and it was the lacing on my shoes. I took the laces out of the top eyelet and there are some "open" lacing techniques out there on the web that are helpful. I will try to locate them and get back with you.

The comment from jtshad is exactly my experience too. What helped me is "Lacing the Lydiard way" under www.lydiardfoundation.org/training.

Thanks both of you! When I get home, I am going to re-lace both of my shoes that way. I also took a look at some of the information on the lydiardfoundation.org website - totally awesome! He talks about incorporating aerobic conditioning, hill training, anaerobic training, and speed workouts. I downloaded the training info, and am going to look at it more closely later on.

I had top of foot pain quite a while back and tried some alternate lacing techniques which helped some but not much. I'd get swollen bumps on the top of my feet in spots. Turns out I was lacing my shoes too tightly. I found when I had them snug but not overly tight everything was fine, which for me was a very fine line. Just a thought.

Way to be patience on your running. These easy runs will make the healing process faster. It shows great dedication when you have pain that's bothering you.
